Exclamation Very strange set of events

Hi everyone,

This weekend has been one of extremely mixed emotions for me. On friday night I picked up my new midnight/sand beige turbo in the pouring London rain. The exterior colour is amazing, and goes amazingly well with the PCCBs' yellow. Inside I think I possibly went for a couple too many leather options, and although I like it I think stone grey might have been a wiser choice. Overall though, make no mistake, I was chuffed to bits with the car.

Anyway so on Saturday morning I took it down to a wheel specialist to get some HRE 545Rs in 20" and some H&R springs put on. Not sure about the stock wheels really so I thought what the heck let's stick a bit of dish on it and see what it feels like.

This is where it gets amazing. When they were stripping down the car the guys doing my wheels found that the rear subwoofers were not even wired up. Even more incredulously, they found a beer bottle top wedged on top of one of my struts in the rear suspension! This obviously throws up a lot of interesting and uncomfortable questions for Porsche. Were the guys building my car drunk?! More importantly what were they doing drinking FRENCH lager?!

Eventually, after a few problems setting up the car the guys finished. Then they broke the news to me that the rear right PASM wire was unfortunately severed during the work. So now I have a PASM failure. In fairness they are going to fix it for me but still... I am worried about this situation.

So what do I think of the new ride quality / wheels? Well I think the H&R springs would work well with 19s but the drop is slightly too aggressive with 20s IMO. I don't feel quite so confident on bends. Full steering lock generates a bit of rubbing at the front.

Now if one of you guys with experience about this sort of thing could help me I would be extremely grateful;

What do I do now? The options are:

1. Just let the guys fix my PASM thing and try the car out for a bit.
2. Ditch the 20s, put my stock wheels back on and try that.
3. Cut my losses by taking the car to a proper Porsche specialist and get it restored to stock.
4. Invest in some Bilstein PSS10 coilovers and either leave on the 20s or switch back to stock.

Cheers

Take it to another porsche specialist and get a second opinion. The shop that did the work should make things right or put it back to stock on their dime.

Mate welcome to the 6. I would take the car to the Porsche dealer you got it from and have them fix the PASM Don't let the shop monkey around with it and report what you have found . As you already have the new wheels I would keep them but have the car checked ie camber and toe in toe out as when you lower the car all of this changes. Some springs lower the car enough to not allow the original shocks to work. If you are thinking about coilovers I would go with KW and if you do so make sure you have the work done at a Porsche specialist to get the correct set up done like corner weight etc...
In London there are good dealers like AFN but I will look around and find ones that deal with road going Porsche's and race cars those will be best for set up. If you are ever going to the Nurburgring I can help you there I know few Pro's that can help you From KW to Manthey. Good luck hope all works out well for you. Btw your car looks great color combo and wheels

22DAN - Welcome to the 6 and I think the color combo looks great! Stone Interior looks dull over time IMHO.

As far as the rubbing goes - what offset and sizes are in the front? Are they 9 inch? Many people have stuck with the 8.5 fronts because of this potential issue. Although offsets can have this problem as well.

I had my car on H&R springs before I went with the PSS Damptronics.

1) I would go for the Bilsteins PSS Damptronics
2) Check the offsets/size of your front wheel and stick with the 20's they look great.
3) Have Porsche deal with the PASM and let the company who severed the wire deal with it.
4) Report what you have found along with the items. Did you take any pictures of it for your records?

Condor the only problem with going KW is the PASM disabling. I have the instructions but at least here at the two dealers closest to me would not disable it for me.

I have a set of KWV3's that I have to send back because of it.

Good luck 22DAN.

Thank you for the info. I am sure KW have done a kit that help Disable the PASM . Before you send you KW's let me first check with KW and I will come back to you as I am sure they will never sell the 997 kit without having anything for the PASM. I will post here the answer from KW

Condor - it is okay.I have the Bilsteins now anyways. Thanks for the offer! KW sent me the instructions and a letter from Germany to give to Porsche about disabling the PASM. That did not work with Porsche. They took his letter and said "No thanks". So I went with the Bilsteins to keep the Porsche gods happy.

KW's stance is that the way their designs are setup they do not want PASM. They want it disabled to get the most out of their coilover kit and I don't fault them for believing in their product.

Unfortunately Porsche doesn't believe enough in KW to allow my dealership to disable it for me. I am sure I could have gotten it done elsewhere but why fight a new car warranty. The Bilsteins are very good and I happy with them.

Once again thanks for the help!

Love the wheels, the offset for the front or width may be off. They shouldn;t rub, even with the car lowered.

Welcome...Id take it to the dealer just to make sure they don't give you cr*p about a warranty issue down the line. I like the Stock wheels better, or some different HRE. The wheels look good, don't get me wrong, just not my fav.

Sir thanks for your kind reply . I understand very well, I am a close friend of KW and I have just a bit more access to the Tec department to get the much needed help in some case's. Porsche will never change and probably thats good.
Glad to know you like the Bilsteins if you need help with KW's just PM me and I will do my best to help
