That's a good point man.
You can take your wife to dinner and park next to Ferrari's and not look out of place, then go to the track and tear it up with the best of them, that's what you cant buy for 68k (actually 110k - 1130k with the markups, so in essence you cant buy a GT-R for any less than a TT)
Thats
Bosnian people have his freakin picture framed in thier houses like he is a freakin GOD... he isnt to populor and well known like I thought.. Guess Sweden is just proud of him..
FYI: What the hell kind of double jointed is his foot look at that thing

And your reply is exactly what I am talking about... sure the skyline will get the attention from our comunity but to most it will look like a G35 with a body kit lol... The turbo looks like a 100k 911s with fenders o wait it looks totally diffrent
You would be surprised how many people are like WOW that car is amazing looking what is it.. And you can valet with confidence next to any car you would imagine and still get respect from every comunity from rice burners to rags to riches...
Sure but if you are paying $110k for a 70k car that with all honesty is a Nissan at the end of the day, you have a problem. This is unless you have so much money you dont know what to do with it thats a diffrent story.

The Skyline looks completely different then a normal infiniti G37, not to mention its going to be proportionally bigger. Proportions are the same with the 911's save the stance.
No intending to offend, and if money was no object who wouldn't take the Turbo? However, I find your stance on looks to be way off the mark.

Porsche has a brand name recognition that people think automatically when they see one that it cost over 100k, new or older. I'm not trying to sound elitist here, as none of this is important to me, but it is the way it is. The Nissan is not a luxury car, you can see the plastic everywhere. The TT is a combination of both.
No offense Global, but save car enthusiasts, most can't tell the difference between a normal 911 and a Turbo.

But you said it again if you were to choose which would you choose? You answered in "if money was no object who wouldnt take the turbo" end of discusion of this thread from that said, dont you think?
It'll get respect from car entusiasts, but many affluent people wont eve know what it is. Except for the Nissan badge on it. That's just the truth.

If there's anything Nissan knows how to do these days, it's market a product.
The GTR is an amazing car in much the same way a Z-06 is an amazing car. It's a Japanese Corvette. Granted, the Japanese approach the same goal from an entirely different direction, but the goal is the same. Supercar performance at an "everyday" price. The reason the GTR trailed the Porsche everywhere in testing is simply marketing. Doesn't anybody think it's ironic that this particular car has always been VERY visible in prototype testing, and that it was ALWAYS seen with the Porsche? They want to produce the stigma that it's a 911TT for people that can't afford a 911TT. In reality, it's more of a direct competitor for a Z-06 or Viper. So why wasn't it seen testing with those cars? Marketing.... simple. What sounds more impressive? My car outperforms a "Porsche 911 turbo", or "my car outperforms a Chevy"? Some people might argue that it has a back seat so the 911TT is more fitting. I ask if those people have ever seen the back seat of a 911. Z-06, Viper, and now GTR all represent cars where performance is the HUGE priority in design. Comfort? Refinement? Class? Luxury? I doubt those where even mentioned in the design process. Don't let the fact that it has two turboes, 6 cylinders, AWD, and a back seat fool you. It's NOT a Porsche competitor.
With that said, for someone who can't afford a 911TT and is having a hard time deciding between a Z-06, Viper, and even the M3 or C63 AMG, this new Nissan is a real contender. I'd love to have a 997TT in the garage for everyday driving enjoyment, AND a bare bones GTR on the trailer behind the pickup for beating up on the track. Of course in a perfect world, that GTR would be replaced by a GT2.

I agree with you regarding Nissan's marketing ploys. When they made the 350Z, they benchmarked it against a Boxster and the G37 is benchmarked against a 335i BMW.
They really want to sway those buyers that are on the fence or aspire to own the real deal, so that they feel that they got more bang for their buck, if and when they decide to buy the Nissan/Infiniti product.
What's the real truth though? Both the Porsche and BMW are more driver oriented cars right out the box, versus the competing Japanese products. Better exhaust note, clutch, suspension, handling, brakes.
No offense to 350Z or G37 owners, but those cars need some work to get them up to the level of driving pleasure that their benchmarked cars provide.
That being said, I still like the Japanese products for their lower pricing, features, reliability, and close performance to their competitors. When I bought my Lexus, I test drove the competitor vehicles from BMW, Audi, and
Mercedes. I went with the Lexus for its leather air cooled/warmed seats, reliability, bluetooth, touch screen nav, push button start, keyless entry, and overall value.
The European cars had more grunt and driver appeal, but who really needs that in bumper to bumper traffic while talking on the phone and sipping coffee?

Guys it's very simple. The GTR will be a great performance car, much like the Z is. But the 911 is and likely will always be, the standard by with other sports car makers compare themselves to. Some may be faster, some may be better looking and some will be a cheaper. But none will be a Porsche.
There just something special about a Porsche, and being faster does not equate to being better. You either get that or you don't.

Absolutely. And I don't want come off as being against Japanese cars. In fact that picture of my car in my avatar isn't a German car (despite the Porschesque HREs), it's Japanese. I just feel that Nissan has done a good job of "one upping" one aspect of the 911 turbo, but hasn't addressed the myriad of other traits that make a 911 a 911. (and at 1/2 the price, I don't expect it to)
I am absolutely a fan of the new GTR and will really consider purchasing one once the the inevitable dealer markups go away. But in the grand scheme of things, it's no 911TT.
