Dension Install

Installed the gateway 500 icelink up front, right before the amp on the chain and everything works great. Unit is mounted below the navdvd module. Clean install, and good use of the charcoal filter space without wasting space. Easy access to the aux and usb ports as well. Couldn't get it to work right when installing behind the head unit for some reason. Interestingly, didn't have to reprogram the headunit after the install as I thought I would since I didn't order the cd changer.

What kind of problems did you have behind the head unit, that's where mine is and has been problematic.

The unit didn't work at all. We were about to give up but decided to try it up front in the trunk, using power from the amp and placing it in the chain where the cd changer would be, and everything suddenly worked. No reprogramming necessary. The instructions are a little vague but I am very happy with the install as no glove box or trunk space is lost. I have easy access to all the ports. It is awesome as all the playlists, artists, track names are present, much better than the mercedes ipod kit I have in my e55.

I think it depends on where in the fiber optic daisy chain you install it. I personally didn't install mine but I spoke with the installer about that. Mine works great too but mine was installed up front behind the PCM so I know that it's possible to make it work up there.

I must be one of the lucky ones. I installed it in the trunk in about 20 minutes and never really have had an issue. In theory it shouldn't matter where in the chain you interrupt it. It is a pass through on all the circuits

Many times it's as simple as using switched versus unswitched (required) power, or some other anomaly. Some installers have this down to a science, and they put in dozens a month with ease.
