Clearcoat on white - feedback please?
Clearshield on white - feedback please?
I have a white 997TT getting built this month and I am still not sure if I should get the clearshield. It will be my daily driver, they do put sand on roads here if it snows, and I do alot of highway driving. The problem is I am hearing so many varying opinions and problems with these products (3m and Ventureshield which is now owned by 3m) yellowing on the white cars after just a few thousand miles. What are people doing when it does yellow - replacing - how often? I would greatly appreciate hearing from others with suggestions and opinions about this. Also, who has put Matrix on their car and what are the opinions on this product as well. Thanks so much.

Question; did your other car need it, if not pass.
I have the 3m on my tt, never had it on my c4s, should've just passed on it, just looks 'un-natural'. The place that did it did a nice job nonetheless, but you still see it, never looks right after a wash/wax/detailing.

I think you have some of your terms mixed up .. Clearcoat is the transparent top coat of paint .. this is placed on most (if not all) new cars as part of the paint. Without a clearcoat your paint would be impossible to maintain.
As for ClearBra (the stuff you are referring to: Ventureshield, 3M), Like TT surgeon mentioned, if you have gotten lots of rock chips on other cars then you should go for it. Otherwise you probably don't need it.. it will definitely show on a white car unless you do the whole piece.

I have the complete venturesheild, after 6 k miles it still looks new , it has saved alot of road rash that would of been on the car without.
I think the rockers should be thicker since they take most of the stuff from the front wheels, I will have mine replaced on the rockers as this long one piece tapers up to protect the lower front rear fender near the inlet..
Gee-Bee

I got it on my car and its a white car i personally love it but also mine is not a daily driver but as far as protecting ur paint i would do it even if u have too change once every 2yrs i think its worth for the resale value of the car and protecting the paint esp if ur on the highway or interstate sometimes cars, trucks kick up some big rocks
Not impossible... just a pain in the ***, I don't have clearcoat

Another option would be to get the full car wrap. This way the whole car has film and you don't have to worry about yellowing. The new film from Venturshield and 3M are pretty good; I do notice a little yellowing after a while, but not like the old day. Then again, you gotta remember, my eyes see things most will never see. Also, don't get any after-market coating, protectant, etc. the dealer tries to sell you. Just polish and wax your car 2-3 times per year, depending on what product, and you'll be fine. My 2 cents.
I ordered VentureShield through the dealer on my Carrera White. I believe that the first day I got the car, the film covers on both side panels were already yellowing---well, maybe it's not yellowing, but it was very obvious that you had a film there with a different color. The strange thing was, the front coverings were not noticeable at all. As for the front bumper, I found a rock chip in the front the other day and I was very surprised that the film did not cover all the sensitve areas. I will show some pictures later. I don't know if this would be under any warranty by the VentureShield guys though. But if you order any clearbras, make sure they cover all areas in the front bumper.

Thanks - changed it to clear shield - isn't clear bra just the front bumper? I am obviously not very educated on this stuff yet. Thanks for the help.

For the record, Accutint put the original 3M material on my 997TT. They did a great job but however I still feel that Metropolitan Detail does a better job. Their work is second to none. Next time we meet, Greta, you can look at what they did on mine. I think you'll be very impressed.
