GT3 (RS?) wheels for the 997TT

After mulling over the whole "which wheels to get" question, I'm going to order a set of GT3 (RS?) wheels for my 997TT like atomic80 and some other 6speeders have done. Went to my dealer today to order them and they told me that the wheels for the GT3 and the GT3RS are the same, only diff is that the GT3RS wheels are painted black.

Is this true? I thought that there would be a difference since the GT3RS is the wide body 997 and the GT3 uses the standard 997 body.

Love to hear what you all have to say so I order the right wheels. Also, I'll be changing rubber as well. I'm thinking Pirelli PZeros or sticking with Pilot Sports. Thanks guys.

Your dealer is an idiot and twit. It simply shows that he doesn't even know the differences between the GT3 and GT3 RS. I would be extremely hesitant to purchase anything form him or his dealership.

You are correct, the GT3RS is wide body, and hence have different offset for wheels. You will need to order GT3 RS wheels, or use GT3 wheels with spacers.

Uh...no, that's not true. The GT3 vs GT3RS wheels are the same up front but the rears have different offsets. You CAN get both silver, orange and black versions of the same GT3 RS wheels. I have the silver version on mine.

Here's the part numbers:
Front:
8.5 J x 19 RO53
P/N 997.362.156.95 (silver) or 997.362.156.96 FFF (041 Black /8C6 Orange)

Rear
12 J x 19 RO 51
P/N 997.362.164.91 (silver) or 997.362.164.92 FFF (041 Black /8C6 Orange)

You're the second person to call a dealership "idiots."

We should probably start a thread..."stupid dealer quotes"...

Here's one...dealership told me that I can mod my car's exhaust...suspension...ECU...but not headers. Definately not headers...because they change the timing of the turbos.

Great idea! We could call the new thread "Things that the IDIOTIC dealership said..."

And those other 6speeders are HUMMM 3 and lpm 505. Both of which have installed GT3 RS wheels on their Turbos essentially copying me!

Thanks atomic80 part numbers mucho useful! I have a GT silver car, similar to the one you did a photo shoot with your car a little while ago. Great photos! That got me over the hump. I'm going to get silver too.

bbywu, thanks too, I've found that often the enthusiast's have a better grip on the details than most dealers, mine has been pretty good to me, so they are nice "twits"!

Good choice going with the GT3 RS wheels. Are you planning to get the colored crests too or go with the painted version like lpm 505 did? I think the painted one will look good with your GT Silver. I'm on my second set of PS2 tires currently and plan to switch to PZeros next based on testimonies I've heard from others who have had these tires. They seem to like them.

Yup, I agree with you, lpm505 nailed it with the painted crests. My car has the painted rockers, front spoiler and rear valence and PCCB's, so it's going to look a little different than lpm's. Had PZeros on my first 997S and loved them. My 997tt came with the PS2 on them and while they are fine, subjectively I thought the PZeros just felt better. No data, just a "seat-of-the pants" thing.

One weird thing though, the PZeros never took to tire dressing very well, no matter what I did, when I detailed my car the tire dressing just seemed to soak into the tire and not leave it with a very shiny look.

Are you sure? I saw quite a few Porsches with those PZero tires with tire dressings on them and they looked "shiny" to me. Maybe they just don't stay shiny for that long. They're not that good for those tires in terms of traction anyways. I rarely put those dressings on mine.
