Nissan GT-R Superior?
Look people at the end of the day after all the bickering and fighting and this and that....Nissan has built a car that OUT performs the 911 turbo PERIOD. If it was one magazine saying this then yes i see the need for argument..but ITS EVERYONE SAYING THIS and everyone that has driven both cars puts the GTR on top. That is the base of the argument..now if you wanna get into immenities and comfort and styling and all the stuff that is outside of performance thats another thing, but we are men here right? we care about times and performance......and sorry to say to all u little butt hurt Porsche owners the GTR takes the cake this round. Guess well have to see Porsches next move...because silently we here the word "check".... and when the Vspec gets into the convo add the word "Mate"
This stuff is too funny.
Maybe Nissan should run the GTAREEERRR RAWR in F1. The name alongemakes me tremble!
Dez, Seriously, you should order one. We'll rent out Roebling or something. Test it against Kahnh's 997 TT and Ed's 997 GT3.
Then you can flip it on here. I'd say we can get you an allocation up here.
I also can't wait to see these 6speeders times and stories who you obviously know can drive 10ths' every lap at their D.E.'s at Button Willow.
And maybe Z07 will be hired as a Nissan Factory Driver.

Your probably refering to me. Im not a fan boy. I read the entire thread and was just shocked how one car could get so much hatred and controversy. Its like the Porsche owners are looking for every little thing to down play IMO a remarkable achievement by a company that is known for family sedans and affordable products. This is a huge stepping stone for Nissan and we should applaud them for their achievement. Its like Tiger Woods is so dominant and so good that if one player comes along and beats him in one tournament everyone has to start downplaying that individual to the point that its just ridiculous.
Its like i said Nissan has made a product that out performs the 911 turbo. And in doing so they managed to make it 40k cheaper. Whats the big deal? I mean seriously the little things people came up with to say that the magazines got a mule and the tires were better and the driver was different...seriously it sounds to me like someone is jealous and cant take defeat. Why cant it just be set in stone that the GT-R out performs the Porsche 911 turbo? Im not saying its a better car or better value, Im just saying that little dinky Datsun finally beat Porshe....IMO they deserve the praise.
Everything out side of the spec sheet / track times / 0-60 / 1/4mile is just garbage. They are both 2 door sports cars with twin turbos and they are made to do one thing and that is go fast and perform well. In this case one of them slightly performs better than the other...and untill it can be proven otherwise...just admit defeat.

this post has absolutely no merrit......your acting like Porsche is not owned by anyone. Its like saying your a son of a rich billionaire but in college you have to pay for your own gas.....isnt porsche owned by VW group? They got plenty of money for R&d dont they? So dont say blah blah they only make 80k a year and they dont have the resources that Nissan does to make certain parts....isnt the VW suv the same platform as a Cayenne and Q7?

As to "outperformance" - last I checked, the stock 997tt is faster than the GTR under acceleration testing, as is the Z06, and Viper. With the tranny limited to 600 ft/lb as well, "Godzilla" isn't going to get much faster either. It's a 116mph trap car in a 130+mph trap world. Don't get me wrong, the GTR performance is fantastic at the price, but the assumption that it will be showing tailights to the establishment is delusional at best.
Honestly, this debate has just become a place for personal diatribes and at times elitist rhetoric as a substitute for discussion of real, unbiased data.
I'll give a plot summary:
A fanboy/member posts a GTR query or comparo.
It is initially met with casual discussion leading to staunch warring from each side.
HC comes in with admittedly persuasive points in a less than persuasive manner.
Verbal jousting p.4-15
Mod comes and tells everyone to chill, fines are handed out, prison sentences issued.
HC declares moral victory.
Fight resumes in milder format, and eventually dies out in a puff of GTR defiance and champagne rains down over 997 TTs everywhere...
Practically it seems this will never end.
Ideally Top Gear will have a run in each and end it once and for all, if people choose to believe that Nissan hasn't given them all the corporate reach around, but that is about as good as it will get.
At this point, I think it's fair to say that the GTR is obviously understated from the factory in hp and thus is posting numbers that make no sense. Whether it can beat a 997 TT or GT3 around the track will be about as elusive as a unicorn if no one can believe anyone else.
The idea of personal tests is about as dumb as they come in getting closer to a real answer because no one here is a Schumacher, Balboni, or Rohrl.
I will admit I did look at these tests with a new perspective thanks to the debate and issues brought up by various members, and they are all seemingly valid.
There will be no "check" or "mate" it seems, and even if there was I guarantee you every member of NAGTROC would still love their GTR and every member here would love their 997.
This has become about as useful as jousting with chopsticks, so enjoy that, I'm gonna go sit and wait for Top Gear.

Porsche now owns >50% of VW, not the other way around. If there is any evidence that VW has been bankrolling Zuffenhausen all these years I have not seen it.

Now you're talkin.
It will be interesting to hear if Tony buys a GT-R, he could obviously afford both and actually drive both at 10/10ths.The "key board hot laps" can go on all day/night, but this is something that will be settled only when we (real world drivers/consumers at large) have had the opportunity to track both for greater than one afternoon. Then our collective buying power will determine whether or not Nissan has succeeded in what they have set out to do. My money is still on Porsche at the end of the day.

#1 The idea of personal tests is as good if not better than what the magazines have given us so far.
#2 If the mag tests seem valid to you, some lessons in studying driving and reading data is in order. No one can tell me the data from Car magazine is jacked up and that they watched the video from EVO and saw decent driving in that GT3.
And least know one who knows and has experience in tracking. Those two tests are about as useless as they come.

Follow the below thread. There is a lot of valid pro/con comments about the GTR. Then make your own decisions.
