Fixed the ignition coil, but then they got another light for a leak in the clutch line. Wont see the car till Tuesday.

For the last week I felt like the clutch was only engaging at the top, especially in the morning when getting out of the driveway.

Has anyone ever had a leak in the clutch line? Should I be worried about excessive wear on my clutch as a result of that?

Just got news that the hydraulic valve also needs to be replaced, so now we are up to three failed parts.

ignition coil, hydraulic valve, clutch line.

This is not making sense. The chances of having multiple simultaneous failures is very low. Sounds like either some parts got damaged during the other repairs or they don't really know what is going on

Service adviser called back and said that the ignition coil was fine, but they needed to swap it out to determine where the failure was, and the cylinders misfiring was a result of the hydraulic valve.

I tried to research hydraulic valve online but I only found info on 993s and how it was used when the car is warming up.

He said that hydraulic valve is responsible for the camshaft timing and thats what is throwing things off, does that make sense?

Got the car back

Summary:
Ignition coil was fine
Some sensor was busted affecting camshaft
3 spark plugs were busted and were replaced
- btw seems this may be an issue on alot of cars, the dealer said it was pretty common
clutch line replaced because of leak

Car is back in tip top shape so all is well again.

After driving the range rover all week though, I gotta say Im near reconsidering the turbo as a daily driver... well nearly anyway

nzk, I don't knock you for asking the question about reliability. It was an important criterion for me in deciding to order a Porsche.

You should be interested to know that Consumer Reports rates the reliability of the newest 911's as "above average" and recommends the car. This hasn't always been the case with the 911. Some of the stories you hear may be from older models. The Cayman's reliability, fyi, is rated "excellent."

BMW's overall reliability is "average" and Mercedes is "very poor." The corvette is "very poor." These ratings pretty much extinguished any lingering doubts that I should go with a Porsche for a sports car.

If you're looking strictly at reliability and practicality, there are better choices but they don't rate as highly on the fun-o-meter in most people's opinions.

not bashing, just a serious question. most people who own them keep them as garage queens, putting hardly any mileage on them, never really stressing the car over a long period.
how many 997TT owners are there that daily drive it, and how well does it hold together? from rattles and squeaks to major engine issues?
I've been daily driving my 997TT (it's my only car) for 8 months now and tracked it once with zero problems thus far. In terms of rattles and squeaks...the car is built like a rock imho.

Good to hear your car is in good working order again, Raiyu.

Seriously, I am completely obsessive about squeaks and rattles - to the point that I will pull over just about immediately to find out what is going on. I have had 2 noises in the 997tt in 11k miles - first was caused by the wiring of the Parrot bluetooth kit I put in (tie wrap too loose so just tightened it), second was the other day I hear a clinking and it drives me mad - turns out it is the safety clip on the fire extinguisher I put in. These cars are built very well and it shows. Now OTOH, my 997GT3 rattles began in the driveway of Zuffenhausen factory...
