Engine Problems :(
Left the car at my garage in the morning, pulled the car out in the evening. Drove about two blocks when I started hearing some repetitive rumbling sounds. Paying more attention I realized that the back of my car was shaking as well.
Turned it off, waited a minute and turned the car back on, sound still there, and car still shook while sitting at idle. I figured maybe its just a bit wonky and I should just drive off slowly and see if it settles. Drive another block and I get the check engine sign.
Drove it back to the garage and getting it towed to the dealer tomorrow
This is with 1.5 months and 4,500 miles, I really have no idea whats wrong with it. At times when I was driving it also seemed like the turbos would make some weird noise as well.
Anyone have any idea how bad this all sounds ?

Sounds unusual, almost like a motor mount issue...but in a new car?
Could be something in the IS(intermed shaft) area, keep us posted. Either way it's a warranty item for sure, don't sweat it. I've got 18k on mine(w/track) zero issues, in fact just did a 2k road trip. GL

The only other thing worth mentioning is that I got my oil changed at the dealer at around the 3K mark, so I guess if there was something really messed up they should have spotted it then but who knows.
how good is porsche reliability?
some recent posts put into question the reliability issue of the 997, a car that is supposed to be the best german engineering has to offer, and the sticker price shows it.
not bashing, just a serious question. most people who own them keep them as garage queens, putting hardly any mileage on them, never really stressing the car over a long period.
how many 997TT owners are there that daily drive it, and how well does it hold together? from rattles and squeaks to major engine issues?

I can only speak for my Porsches and say that I have been very pleased . A problem arises every now and then but the basic reliability of the cars have been quite good for me.
Well mine is a daily driver which is why I have 4.5K miles on it in less than two months, so I'd really like to know what the issue is.
I'm off to get some sleep gotta get up at 6AM tomorrow to get the car towed and hopefully service can make my issue a priority so at the very least I can find out whats wrong with the car even if they cant immediately fix it.
Wish me luck

NZK - its not like every porsche will be perfect. Don't jump on the bashing bandwagon as soon as a few cars are called into question. It happens and you make it sound like we can't have an issue here or there with the amount of Turbo's they have sold over the years with this engine.
Are you also familiar with 996's? could you shed some light on the reliability of those as well? I gave mine back in 01(996TT) to Porsche Dealer..with 3000K miles on it...but that is another story all together.
Raiyu - i hope they find the problem and give you quick resolution.

i think cars like TT are engineered tightly. cars more mass produced like most non-AMG MB or none-M BMW are less problem prone bc components are not pushed/engineered as much.
it'd be interesting to see how reliable the GTR is. maybe the japanese have better engineering and quality. just wish they have italian styling...

maybe it's just a sparkplug coil that's cracked. That creates the missing/shacking on the engine and since missing cylinders damage the cats, the CEL will light up. Just wishfully thinking...
I hope you get it sorted out

Did you get a flashing CEL (red) or solid yellow? I had a similiar experience several months ago. Pulled the car out of the garage to go for a late night drive and as I was heading down the street it started sputtering/bucking. I immediately started to make a u-turn to go back home, as I knew this was not good, and as soon as I turned to head back home I got the flashing red CEL.
There was no power - almost like it was in some kind of limp mode and stuttering badly. Towed the next day and turned out it was a bad (crank?) solenoid. Dealer said just one of those things.
I'm sure it will be OK. Let us know what they find.

Towed the car into the dealer this morning.
I get a solid yellow check engine sign and a red exclamation mark, neither one is flashing.
The car isnt in limp mode, I obviously didnt full throttle it, but it does feel like most of the power is there. The car starts each time with no issues, and only stalled out once one me when I was on an intersection waiting for a pedestrian to cross.
Just my luck the service department is in a meeting all day till 1PM but my service rep he should be able to let me know in the afternoon whats wrong.
On the bright side I saw that they had a brand new silver GT2, I snapped a few iphone pics and I'll try and post them later.
In person the car is definitely dramatic. From the front 3/4 view the rear deck lid with the spoiler is very aggressive, and reminds me of the batmobile (in a good way). However the exhaust does look a little weird. They dont come straight out, they are angled, not sure I like that.
Black interior with deviated red stitching, red gauges, and some carbon fiber trim.
