Upgrading EVOMS 690R to 700EVT
Upgrading EVOMS 690R to 700EVT
Hi guys.
I got my car back from Sharky last week after getting my 690R set-up upgraded to EVT700. In addition to the modified VTG turbos and the new ECU programming, this involved getting a beefier clutch and adding a BRV.
As always, Alex and James did a great job for me.
Others have reviewed the EVT700, so I won't repeat all the details. The short version is the car is insanely fast-- but it was insanely fast with the old kit, and barely sane when bone stock.
I wanted to focus on the incremental changes from the upgrade to EVT700 from the Stage IV/690R kits a lot of guys are running.
The change is pretty easy to explain and feel: the car now keeps boosting and pulling all the way to the red line. Power delivery feels smoother too.
One of the disappointing things for me about the stock 997TT (and even the Stage IV kit) was the fall-off in power in the upper RPM range. Totally different car, but I love the way my E60 M5 just pulls harder and harder all the way to the 8250 redline. Now this is how the TT feels.
Anyway, I would highly recommend the upgrade.

That's just how I would describe it... It's almost like the stockers run out of air middle/up top. The BRVs also now seem to hold boost better- it's funny seeing that same faulty rubber boot from the 996TT dv after so many years but in the 997TT.I remember when your car came in it had 100 and it certainly enjoyed it (I know I did
). I really do notice the difference between the 91 and 100 mode. I still wish we had 93 here but we have to make do. I know you run 100 at the track and with the difference between 91/100 being about $1 now at the Andrade station it's making even more sense.Subbie- you next
How do you guys manage to buy these things from EVO? Do they actually answer your emails and phone calls?

I don't ask questions. I just go on vacation and when I come back, my car is faster.
Sharky would know the real answer, but I'm not sure if he's sworn to secrecy on this.
I suspect that what is happening is that the 700EVT kits is still kind of "in Beta" and they don't have the capacity to produce very many of the special turbo units. Right now the drill is to send them your turbos and wait, and wait, and wait, and then they send you the new ones.
Until they figure out how to reduce the wait time, it doesn't do them any good to market the kit-- it will just frustrate a bunch of people.

Mines up in line at the end of the month... cant wait
I ordered a special licence plate for it.... 701 HP ... 700 HP was taken
Great comentary on the way the car feels at 700 hp. I too felt the mid and upper torque range was lacking in the 600 hp kit but not no mo!

I have not. Anyone know of a good AWD dyno in the Bay Area (East Bay ideally)?
Alex sent me a screen shot of a dyno from another car, but would be fun to know how my actual car is doing. Short of that, I was thinking of finding a safe place for some 60-130 runs with my GPS data logger. I think I can hit 130 in 4th if I keep WOT until rev limiter kicks in.
At any rate, in the 100 Octane mode, the car is finally "fast enough" for me (at least for a few months).

Love the plate tho!!!
U MAKE me spend money on mods, and I called you that twice now... lol once when the 600 kit came out and now with the 700.
I keep telling you I'll work for HorsePower

Along my 690R -package I took the recommended EVO / Sachs Stage 2 Clutch kit with aluminum flywheel. Did you make Stage 2 --> Stage 3 upgrade here or what is a beefier clutcth?
Can stage 2 handle the EVT-700 torque (703 lb.-ft.) or is S3 replacement inevitable future?
I guess this is a no brainer?

ESu:
I was on the stock clutch, so it sounds like you would be OK. A more durable clutch than you have would last longer but be less drivable. The wifey drives mine sometimes, so I wanted an easier clutch.
On the BRV, I just added it on to the bill because it wasn't that expensive and EVOMS/Sharky recommended it. Not sure how much difference it makes.
