Lewis Hamilton Holds Off Kimi For The Podium Finish!

What a great F1 race in Turkey!

I was suprised at Hamilton's 3 pitstop strategy but I loved the way he held of Kimi for the second place finish.

Massa should not be a #2 driver with any team - he is far to quick.

Ferrari looks so dominant this year - can you believe the way they took the 4-apex turn 8??? Insane.

Turn 8 must be the most exciting in F1... and I agree one of the best races in F1 for some time...

F1 is losing the plot though - too many rules etc ... there should be one rule (aside from the safety related ones).

**200 Litres of fuel to complete the distance as fast as you can.**

Next year make it 180 litres, and the year after that 160 etc...

Thats the only way this sport will have some longevity... F1 has always been a technoligical stomping ground, now they will be locking engine development for 5 years soon or something along those lines. What BS is that? The manufacturers have too much say now methinks.

Also, give me a clue as why they need to switch tire compounds. The requirement to run both hard and soft tires confounds me.

Strange rule indeed. Perhaps it was part of the deal with Bridgestone.

It sure made for some fine drama yesterday though! If Lewis could have stuck with the hard compound, he may have run Massa down.

This is what it's come to for McClaren - "moral" victories through Podium finishes? From what I saw, had there been more time, Kimi may have overtaken Lewis as he cut the gap to .6 seconds with a couple of laps left before finally backing off. Lewis was not gaining on Massa during his final stint with the soft compound tires. Ferrari clearly is the dominant team and BMW Sauber may be nearly equal to McClaren.

Yeah Lewis pushed hard and deserved that podium. A little off topic but what did make me laugh though was one of the commentator's comments something like "it must be hard being a formula 1 driver's wife", what being flown to many different exotic locations and spending a few million a year!

Sorry if I spoiled the end of the race for anyone. I will be more careful with my post titles in the future.

I agree with you to some extent, but Lewis DID shave .5 seconds off of Massa's lead in the final 2 laps. I think that Massa was letting up a bit - why risk a mistake with a 6 second lead. But Lewis did gain on him. As far as Kimi is concerned, Lewis was on the soft compound which was not working well for McLaren all weekend and Kimi only gained in sector 3 where Ferrari was absolutely lights out (something like 4 mph faster than the field all weekend long). Lewis did increase the gap, but only after Kimi was resigned to 3rd. Kimi is the fastest driver in the world. I have no doubt he could have caught Lewis under normal racing conditions. That being said, check out the start of the race. Lewis blasted Kimi off the line - which you simply never see happening.

There is no doubt that Ferrari has the better team this year. I am in absolute awe of their performance. But Lewis deserves some credit as well.

I love the F1 banter! Keep it coming.

Unfortunately, I missed the start of the race and picked it up during Lewis' 3rd pit stop. My son is 12 and we enjoy watching the races together. He was particularly interested in finding out more about the babes in Massa's entourage, or was that his old man?! Montreal is is about 4 hours from our house and we're considering taking a ride up for the race.

I think one of the stable of "babes" hovering around Massa was his wife. Unfortunately!! All that candy and the ol' lady shows up.

I watch the races with my 13-year old son. He loves motorsports. Isn't it great to have the car connection with your son. I just love it.

I HIGHLY recommend going to the F1 race in Montreal. We went to Indianapolis last year and had the time of our lives! I have been to the World Series, the NBA Finals and the Super Bowl twice but nothing compared to the majesty of that F1 experience. The sound of those cars is beyond anything I have ever witnessed. Since there is no more U.S. GP, we are also going to Montreal - although it is a bit more than a 4-hour trip. It would be great to see you there.

We noticed the great looking ladies in Massa's entourage as well. I think that super hot one in the leather coat was his sister (the one who held his helmet while he was on the podium). His wife is smokin'. Grid Girls are one of the best "fringe benefits" of watching F1.

You should notice Hamilton was very light on fuel because of his three stop strategy ( maybe 20 kg's less) + he was on the clear side of the track, which is very important in short start line like in Turkey!

So this would not been happening with even cars!

Anywa, we share the opinion about the fastest driver

You say this like it is supposed to reflect negatively on Lewis. I think McLaren was pretty damn smart for its fuel and pit strategy and Lewis was on the clear side of the track because he out qualified Kimi. You can nitpick about whatever you want but the bottom line is that Lewis was ahead of Kimi when the checkered flag fell. End of story.

I respect Ferrari and Kimi but I think that Lewis is the best driver in the world overall.
