Hi 6speeders,

TPC check light came on a few miles later after installing 20" P43 with Mich PS2.. Is it normal? Does the system need to adapt OR am i missing something here? I need advices on this..

I did a search but found only one post.. Any similar encounters from those who did 20" before? Your inputs would be greatly appreciated!!

This has happened to me a couple of times. It is common. The system should re-learn and the warning light should go off within 10-20 miles. If it doesn't go off within that distance, you should give the dealer a call. My bet is, it will go off and be just fine.

I have 20" P43s also and have the light come on twice even after the system "relearned" the wheels after installing. The first time it told me the right rear was 4lbs too low even though my manual gauge and the computer screen told me the were the same. I did as told and it went away. The second time it told me the left rear was 4lbs too low. Same exact situation, same exact results. Strange.............

Regarding the needle (point where air is pumped).. Do i need to use back the old "needle" from the OEM wheels. What psi is recommended? i had 36 front and 40 rear..

I run 38 and 42 in my TT. Drive it round for about 20 minutes to ensure they air is nice and warm. Then check what the pressure shows. If you are 4 down you should only need to add 2 when warmed up.

Funny. My tires registered -7 on each rear today and I got a "Flat Tyre" warning! But the tires seemed the same as usual. I put 5 pounds in each rear and then it said I had 50 pounds in each rear tire!!

Is there any danger in running them with too much air?

 

Too much air can cause a blow out at high speed if they expand too much. Better a bit under, than over

 

The tire I am running says max PSI is 50lbs in the rear. Do you think I should bleed some off??

 

Yes, it is normal and to be expected. The procedure to calibrate the Tire Pressure Monitor System is a little to involved to go into here. Best bet is to read the procedure in the Owner's Manual. I initially use an accurate tire gauge to set the pressures at 34F and 39R, then go through the steps to have the system "learn". It's not difficult. Your tire pressure settings may vary depending on load and style of driving.

 

I have 20" P43s. Am I running a risk by having them 40 in front and 50 in rear?? when I was running 35F and 39R it gave me a "flat tyre" warning.

 

Seems a bit high to me, and the differential between the front and rear also seems a bit much.

If you got a "flat tyre" warning and the tyre's weren't flat you probably didn't have your Tire Pressure Monitor System properly calibrated. Procedure is set forth in the Owner's Manual.

With your current pressures, assuming the tyre's are relatively new, the risk you are running is premature tyre wear and poor handling. For the proper pressure settings I would ask the Tire Rack folks (Forum Sponsors) for their opinion.

 

Yes. I think you are spot on. I am going to buy a very accurate manual tire pressure gauge and set it by hand. Then I will run the learning program again. Thanks for the help!

 

Does all 997 year 05 comes with TPC? The one I bought recently doesn't have the feature shown on the screen.

 

I believe your car should have TPC. When you say the feature isn't shown on the screen, what screen are you referring too? The screen you should see it on is the small screen in the lower part of the tachometer. It is accessed with the smaller stalk on the left side of the steering wheel. Push the stalk up or down to scroll through the various menus. When you come to the primary TPC screen, which is a pictogram of the 4 wheels and their pressures, push the stalk forward to access other TPC menus.

Hope this helps, but the real key is to get an owners manual and read it, because this subject gets very involved. I just use a manual tire gauge to set pressures when cold and let the TPC warn me of a tire loosing air.
