Steering Problem?
I use a microfiber towel, no scratches experienced. Definately check clearance when you close the lid of course and make sure no towel covers the locking mechanism.

strange noise
Hello I 'm a member from belgium and have a 996 x 50 with 20 000 miles from 03. I have had the same issue with my car after a car wash and I got a lot of noise, steering problem and a battery fault indicator on the dash. Went to the cpo and they have changed a belt and I 'm now almost 8 months after the change and didn't have the problem any more. They changed the belt under warranty.greetings
OK, I mentioned this to my dealer and he say no problem, it's normal. HOWEVER, this morning while my car was parked at the gym, a big rain storm passed by. When I got in my car to leave, lost my power steering again, followed by a squeek about 10 seconds later, then all was fine. This is very alarming! How do we notify Porsche AG about this? Should be taken care of.

Like others have mentioned, I cover my engine with a towel when washing and I have not had this problem. I would not forget the towel because part of my drying ritual is to open all doors and dry those areas so they don't spot. A tremendous amount of water enters the engine when washing. Mine never goes out in the rain so I don't know what suggest in that case. It does sound like a potential safety hazard that Porsche should fix right away. I imagine it is causing premature wear on the belt also.

I'd get it on record that you made the complaint.

I think its when you leave it standing with water dripping on it - first time it happened to me was today - but it was a very heavy storm though. rained this afternoon - but only a bit - and didnt happen again.
