I dont think this was posted yet... apologies if it was.

GT-R vs Z06 might be a bit unbalanced towards the Z06 because it is supposed to be the higher trim level... I heard that Nissan has a faster GT-R already in the works. Might be a be a better matchup for the Z06

I'm still confused on how a 3800lb car with roughly 480hp is putting down these kind of numbers.

Honestly I love the GTR, great looking car and Nissan did one heck of a job with it. But I am already sick and tired of hearing about it (and all of the forum nonsense with this car). It reminds me of when the 350Z came out, everyone and their grandmothers swearing up and down on how this car just does the impossible "smoked an M3 with it, smoked a 911tt with it, Oh I just beat an F430 with my 350Z, blah blah blah".

Nice car "I definitely think the test cars are pushing way more HP than advertised", now can we just move on??

Nissan is doing a great job in raising the bar, but I don't want future sports cars to drive themselves more that they do now. The GTR is supposedly already like a mini "Skynet" which is not my cup of tea. I want to think than I have some involvement in the experience, that's just me. I never played video games in the "cheat modes" either.

A very elaborate AWD system and a DSG gearbox seem to help immensely. Other than that, I'm trying to figure out why my stage 3 S4 wouldn't be able to keep up lol

I don't think they were. Here is a post from another forum where a new owner took his car to the track:

http://www.3si.org/forum/f1/gtr-my-l...ragway-426516/

According to the original poster:
It ran all night, like 10-15 runs.

At first 12.0 at 117.9 with a 1.7 60ft
then a 12.4 at 121.7
then a 11.8 at 118
then a bunch of runs all between 11.8 and 12.2 trapping 120-122.5.
The trap speeds look pretty close to what the early cars were getting. Also interesting, the wide variation in ET's shows that the car really doesn't launch itself perfect every single time despite what many have said. So as with most races from a dig (such as the Z06 race) driver does still play an important role. On that note, the Top Gear results are pretty impressive.

It's heavier, has "less power" (I leave that in quotes as I believe the claims of 480 are clearly off), and basically a behemoth to run as fast as a Schumi developed F-car racer. I just don't get it.

Who cares if it is faster than a 997tt, Z06, etc. The posting of the roll-on freeway video is just sheer idiocy. OMG two amateurs on the freeway, that'll show everyone!

Nissan has done something amazing and should be commended. All the arguments of passion, interior quality, history, name and otherwise superficial BS doesn't have a place here IMO. THIS ISN'T and has never been about which one you'd rather have. That is a moot point based on budget and preference. Your opinion is no more worthy than anyone else's in that regard.
This has always been about which one is faster and why, not that your P-cars or F-cars look better and make you feel better. I'm sure they do, but that isn't the point.

I'd still take a Scud, a GT3, a CGT, a Zonda, an LP640, etc over the GTR no matter how fast it is, but it still doesn't take away from the monumental achievement that is now being belittled as "well of course it should be that fast" whereas before it was "no way, it's all made up, CHEATERS!!!".
I thought as general car enthusiasts people would be more excited about it, and I get that overzealous fanboys are a chore, but still you have to give credit where it's due. All I see is insecurity and immaturity from a bunch of people that should be plenty proud and not the least bit unnerved that a Nissan is faster than their 997s, you still own a Porsche and there is nothing wrong with a cheaper car being faster.

I agree that we need to give credit where credit is due. The GTR is a great car, especially for the money. I don't think it's the performance that has ruffled the feathers of Porsche owners. I think we all agree that it's a great performance car.

It's when new members of this forum that have hardly any posts come here and start bashing the Porsches that we start having problems. Some of these fanboys that join this forum to stir up crap is where I have a problem. When you see some members with less than 30 or 40 posts and they are all about the GTR and GTR only, you know that they are just trolls. That's when the arguments get heated and we have to defend the Porsches and start questioning the validity of some of the GTR claims. Just my $.02.

I absolutely agree with you about that. There are people who do the same thing on other forums. I for one am a fan of cars in general, I love P-cars, I love F-cars, I love some domestics... I don't like bashing anyone's cars, but I also don't like when people bash something like the GT-R when they have no valid claims or proof of their claims (ie, GT-R cheated blah blah).

Boost, you'll recall I love your car, it was one of the first comments I made on this forum. I'd gladly have that over a GTR, trust me.

I have maintained that I like the GTR for its capabilities and value. Aside from that, there are many many other cars I'd rather have. Lets be honest, it's butt ugly and a bit of a porker. But if I had unlimited funds you'd bet I'd have one in my collection. Also if I never have the means to buy a super exotic, a GTR is a good way to get the experience for pennies on the dollar. That is all. My love of the GTR is purely one of a car enthusiast's and always has been.

You know that if we were face to face, or any member with any other member here we'd/they'd have a passionate discussion about cars, go on a cruise, share some beers, and shake hands. It is what car enthusiasts do around each other. I just hate when people bash each other based on their opinions on a car just because it's the internet. There is no reason to lose civility and respect just because of anonymity and especially because I know how events would unfold in person.

I have always hated the "fanboy" attitude no matter what side it comes from. I also find it sad that some P-car owners are so defensive about their 997TTs or what have you when it is a spectacular car that should never need to be defended.

In all hippie spirit, can't we all just get along? The GTR is clearly fast on a level that I don't get, nor do most people with a basic understanding of physics, and thats kind of the charm. But it should never take away from any other car in production or one you own.

There was never a war really Boost, but truce accepted...
