Turbo Surge?

Today I was driving and I noticed a bit of Turbo surging in the 2000-3500K rev range. I also noticed sometimes with the surge if I pull over and turn off ignition and then restart..surge is gone...
I would normally think DV (diaphragm problem) but since its gone w/ a restart may be the ECM?

Sport mode throttle mapping is ridiculous (useless for street) unless you're shifting at 6k +
I don't care for it otherwise. gears are too short for this mapping IMHO.
It probably best for full launch acceleration only. (Guess why short gear ratio)

I wish Porsche would have separated the boost (overboost) control and sport throttle map. (like they did w/ PASM.)

I would have liked overboost feature and "normal" DBW mode.

The surge happens in normal mode..which I enjoy the throttle map better than sport ..my preference. (ofcourse I realize the boost limiter..)

550+ miles on car...

part of the break-in. (?)

Some one is going to chime in and tell me I need a free flow exhaust system right? LOL

Its not turbo surge by the way you describe it. Turbo surge happens when the throttle plate closes, and the compressor wheel keeps spinning and the air has nowhere to go but back past the compressor(basically out the intake). Turbo surge cant happen with the stock turbos and when youre on the throttle. If you have a turbo with a compressor wheel too large for the engine capacity(MUCH larger than the stockers) then you can have surge while on the throttle.

If you mean to say that you get off the throttle at 2000-3500 RPM and then you hear the fluttering like turbo surge, then yeah, its possible. Could be caused by the diverter sticking closed or not opening enough. Free flow exhaust wont help in your case, so dont worry about it.

thanks for the feedback... I'm thinking dv but why when I turn off ignition..wait..and then start it's gone???

Has any one complained about the stock DVs like the infamous VW/Audi woes ?? I believe it was a stock Bosch part..

You don't like 505 lb-ft of torque?

I'd reserve judgement until the car is broken in...I'd bet you find yourself driving in sports mode all the time.

I'm in sport 99% of the time. 1% chance I forget to push the button.

I love the idea of 505 lb ft...sure!! goes with out saying.
Only that it's featured in SPORT MODE ..sucks. (for street daily driving..or traffic)

Havent seen much more than 3PSI cuz I'm babying it.

I'm just talking about the drive by wire throttle change.
After years of rapid short gear shifting I'd like longer shift times.

And obviously I'll get there when I rev to 6000+.

I'm only shifting at about 4k...sometimes with sport is happens so fast I miss the mark and wind up @ 5k..

But hey it's the make up of the car and I sound very contradictory to
my Porsche philosophy of perfection I know. I just love the gear snick
tight shifting and steering and ride comfort and well every thing but the throttle
map (in sport mode.)

I'm saying Porsche should leave the overboost switch in normal/sport mode. (Like the GT2--which is always active) Let DBW--activate when accelerator sensor threshold 95% regardless if " sport button pushed.."

Sport can control throttle input for quicker response.

I still get 460lbs in normal mode with longer revs..feels more V8 like.

The short shifter is excellent. Better than B&M kits I had. TIGHT.
I LOVE this car

with practice you get used to the hairtrigger throttle with Sport mode on. took me 2,000m of weekend driving to get used to it, now non sport mode is boring.

****, I am not sure I can ever go below 600 hp. The car is starting to feel to normal so that means an upgrade to the 700hp kit.
