997TT: Swapping ceramics for steels?

I want to change my ceramics for steels. The swap will be made between two cars - mine and another with stock steel brakes.

The reason is that they give hardly any advantages, dont last very long and cost $$$$ to replace.

Is it hard to do? Anyhting i should be aware of? I heard just changing brakes themselves is not enough, one also needs to reprogram abs block (apparently any dealer can do it easily)?

Are you tracking your car? Why do you think they don't last long? They definately have advantages...lighter weight, less fade...and they're yellow!

I did about 10k miles on my CGT and my disks are messed up (about 15 track days).

The weight is less for sure, but thats hardly a consideration for a turbo, moreover its suspension was designed to accommodate both.

Fade is almost non-existent yes. Is it a consideration for a daily driver which is taken to a track only in bad weather?

Now, how about warming them up before going fast during winter? Or how about replacing them after each winter when sand/acid/**** from the road will eat them away?

Just not worth the trouble on this kind of car. So, do you need to reflash abs unit or something?

Interesting - I have heard a few others desire this same swap. These are folks that do not track their cars and have Ceramic Brakes. I foam at mouth for them as a option but cringe at the thought of getting 10-25k miles of life out of them just to spend 2-3times the amt of $$$ compared to Steel just to replace them......I guess if you can afford to buy them in the first place you can afford to keep them in the long run....

There's no way I'd swap out Ceramics for Steel. I really feel a difference and wouldn't ever step-down and go back to steel.
Maybe test drive a steel rotor and see/feel the difference before you switch out. I really can't imagine you'd still do it after testing the two. But if you still feel the need to do so, I sure hope the person you're swapping with is giving you a couple thousand!
