My buddy Dickie (turbodickie here on the forum) tossed me the keys to his beautiful black on black GT2 and told me to take her for a drive. Who was I to say no?

Guys...let me tell you; that car is the most phenomenal car I have ever driven. And I have driven quite a few.

Everything from the feel of the clutch, the brakes, the close-ratio transmission, the ride and the handling was impeccable.

The only thing I would want would be more power...simply because I'm an acceleration junkie. Right now, it seems a tad faster than my stock Z06....but of course a totally different type of acceleration (N/A vs torquey VTG turbos). I think a quality ECU flash adding 80 hp or so would make the car a perfect 10. Right now, it's a 9.9.

The car is extremely smooth, easy to control and wonderfully predictable. It could easily be a daily driver with different rubber installed. Anyway, Porsche really hit a home run with this car.

I honestly can't think of another production car that I would want to own more than this one. And that includes the ZR1. I don't care how fast it is.

Down the road, definitely. Maybe even a 998. But for the next 18-24 months, I'll stick with my soon-to-be very modded Z06 until I decide what's next.

great review, the GT2 is definitely a phenomenal car.. autocar put it head to head against the z06 and the latter got massacred! i'm sure your tuned z06 will be faster than a stock gt2 though..

Scott - I love my modded Z06 but would have to agree that a GT2 at some point in the future is in the plans. As wonderful a car for the money the Z is it still is not a GT2.

It'll be faster, but it will certainly never be a GT2.

Well if you saw the Autocar video you must realize the test was seriously flawed with driver error!

Exactly, Jamie. The cars are very close in acceleration..with a slight edge going to the GT2. That Autocar vid was pure BS.

Jamie,

The Z is down at MTI in Atlanta as we speak. She's getting heads, cam, intake, exhaust and the TVS blower from the ZR1. Also getting some basic suspension work, SSK, 360 Forged wheels and some other misc items. Below is a dyno graph of the package I'm getting. At 7.5 psi, it makes over 730 rwhp and 646 rwtq. It's making 600 rwtq at only 2,800 rpm.

She should be a very fun car.

Nice Scott! Be sure to get a set of 345 M&H 18's...only tire that hooks reasonably well at that power level. As I mentioned my BFG's were ok, but not great. You'll have an easier time though since your power doesn't hit as hard as a nitrous car.

Oh we need to race soon!

That's exactly what I was thinking; since I won't be running nitrous and my power comes on more progressively, I should have a easier time hooking.

I plan on running 20" 360 Forged all the way around on the street, with 345/20 and 275/20 Nitto Invos. For racing, 60-130, etc..I'm going to use 345/19 and 275/18 Hoosier A6's on my stock ZO6 wheels. I've heard they hook extremely well with high HP applications.

The M&Hs are awesome, but I don't want to go to a 18" wheel out back unless I absolutely have to. We'll see how the Hoosiers do.

You know I'm always up for that, bro.
