My new Insanely fast SPI Turbo Tip, Vbox times

But from a dig...it will be diff to launch that good as u can easilty with TipS...
You think it will be possible to drive Sledgehammer daily in summer, especially in traffic ???
Is there a lots more turbo lag ???
Dude I got enough of your BS... You have been attacting me for some time now... You and I know exaclty what it was a year ago.... It was never a so called "standalone" and you knew it from the moment you started to "preach" it ... as far as I am concerned- a stand alone is not a piggyback and vice versa. And in this case it is a piggyback... even Tym said so... EFI pro box plugged up to the stock ECU. Now we can argue about the definition of both systems- maybe we should do a poll and see what people really think? Does the word "standalone" define ONE or TWO ecus in the car tuning business? And if it means a standalone( 2 ecus running a car at once- one for tuning one for basic operations like power windows etc.) then what does Piggyback mean then? 3 ECUS? 1 ECU?
I can have a piggyback system in my car in a week... I just don't need it becasue my car made 984 rwhp and 888 rwtq on the "stock" ECU at only 23 psi... do you want to see the dyno?
BTW,
I have nothing bad to say about Switzers pruducts... I am going to repeat it in case you don't hear me... I have nothing bad to say about Tym's work.... it is you who put a cloud over it by conceiling the real product... I called you out on it indirectly becasue I knew it was not a standalone... but you chose to continue to change the goal post by making everyone believe it is a standalone for over a year. Had it been EPL, EVOMS, FVD, Proto, I am sure you would call it a Piggyback.
I do not have any finacial interest in Proto like you do in Switzer... I can prove it to you right now by showing you a bill of $8K I am paying tomorrow for some work done on my car last week. I give credit where due... Even Proto has it's shortcomings and of all the people I think I have more to say about it then anyone on this board...
NO , it has not been done in the pure sense of the word as it means -"Standalone". A standalone is ONE ecu not TWO.
Just my opinion and by no means is the above comment directed towards the Switzer. I have absolutely no bad intentions other then responding to the smirky comment made towards me by Jamie.

PS. You can say whatever you want to my response... I am unsubscribing from the thread in order to prevent a stupid argument then you seem to enjoy having with me.

Lots of great imfo, thank you. So your car is what would be a custom level 4 kit? How much HP and TQ is the car putting down? I'm in Northern California, I hope S-Car-Go Racing, Inc. could do the install, if I purchased the kit from Tym. Wow I should have never read this thread.

Ok...thanks for info...I guess I jsut need to find right car now...

Well Tym was able to get a 1.66 60 foot time at the strip, so obviously the Sledgehammer can be launched well from a stop. Its going to take more skill obviously than an automatic to launch, but the clutch is also rated to stand up to the abuse. I think the Sledgehammer could be daily driven quite easily, although obviously an automatic is going to be easier to drive in stop and go traffic. As for turbo lag, I dont feel there is much more lag because with the tip you already get the feel of extra lag from the torque converter.

Fantastic! Congrats Aaron on getting your second SPI Pcar!!!
As some of you know, I recently picked up a black 911 turbo 6 speed and sent it to Tym Switzer for his Sledgehammer package upgrade. While I was at his shop checking out David's (dk996tt) Sledgehammer I drove Michael's (GT RUS) Silver tiptronic 911 that had been upgraded with Switzer's 750 kit. I really liked this car too, and long story short, I bought it from Michael last week and drove it 500 miles home to Tennessee. The car hasn't had a single issue, nothing weird, no glitches, no check engine lights, just pure fun.
This tip car is blistering fast anywhere in the 0-120mph range. It is easy to drive fast and easy to drive slow. Anyone looking for a great daily driver with loads of acceleration when you want to get on it, this is the perfect package. Tym is a pleasure to work with, and very accessible to his customers. Not only that, but he knows what hes doing and then some. He facilitated the transaction between me and Michael (who is in Russia), and has answered all my questions to my satisfaction.
Early this morning I decided to put some Sunoco 104 octane fuel in the Tip car and take it out for some Vbox runs. I started with some 60-130mph runs allowing the car ample time to warm up before getting hard on the throttle. The weather was a cool 62 degrees, with 90% humidity, the sun was just started to come up. I turned off PSM and turned on sport mode. I downshifted to 2nd gear at about 53 mph and hit the gas. I let the tranny do all the shifting. When it was all said and done, I performed 4 runs and the times ranged from 6.85 - 7.17 seconds. The best run was the final one, so I decided it was time to head back.
Closer to home I found my spot where I like to perform 0-60 and 0-100mph runs, and decided to give it a shot. Same sequence as before, psm off, sport mode on. I held the brake with my left foot and rev'd up to 2700 rpms with my right foot. I let off the brake and mashed the gas, the car flew off the line and stayed straight all the way up to 108 mph before I had to hit the brakes. Again I let the tranny do all the shifting. The run felt good and I looked at the Vbox display to check out my times. They were as follows:
0-10 0.2
0-20 0.7
0-30 1.1
0-40 1.5
0-50 2.1
0-60 2.7
0-70 3.3
0-80 4.3
0-90 5.2
0-100 6.1
Accel Distance results
Distance() Time(s) @Speed(mph)
0-60' 01.6 43.8
0-330' 04.5 82.2
0-660' 06.9 107.0
This was a big improvement over my previous best times, so I decided to call it quits. I have to say I am very impressed with this car and the upgrade. I cannot wait to get my Sledgehammer back as well. Thanks Tym!
Here is a link to my other thread that has pictures and info on my 6 spd car that is undergoing the Sledgehammer treatment. There is also info and pictures of this Tip car at the end of that thread.

after my post? Sure I was poking fun at you only because we all know you have taken this standalone success so personally.Todd is a big supporter of Tym and vice versa, so you're not doing your tuner any favors by discrediting this accomplishment. You kept on preaching it couldn't be done, yet it has been done....quite successfully and at a reasonable price point. So stop taking this so seriously. We're all on here to have fun and maybe learn a thing or two....
As for the whole piggyback argument, I think you're smart enough to understand a piggyback simply alters the ECU input. That is not what Tym's programming does. If by leaving the factory ECU in to control other non engine related inputs, you want to believe the standalone programming should be defined a piggyback, so be it. I guarantee Tym or anyone else could care less. The only think that matters is how the car drives, performs and stays together at HP levels nobody else has come close to using a bolt-on package.
And for the record....I have ZERO personal direct or indirect financial interest in Switzer. I think the last person you accused of having financial interest was David...and he set the record straight as well. Hell, Tym and I would kill each other if we were business partners....

And congrats on your dyno.
Updated Vbox Times
It cooled off a bit more this morning to around 50 degrees, so I decided to take the SPI tip car out for one last acceleration testing session. Car had about 1/3 of a tank of MS109 in it as I headed out to a mostly deserted highway to try some 60-130mph runs. I did 4 runs in total, they were 6.73, 6.75, 6.99 and 6.73. This is a nice improvement over my previous best of 6.85. Content that I wasnt going to improve my times any more I headed back to the place where I perform my 0-100mph runs.....
Here is the graph of the best 60-130mph run.
Aaron
Here is the graph of the best 60-130mph run.
Aaron
After reaching my favorite 0 - 100+ mph spot, I came to a complete stop. With psm off, sport mode on, and brake boosting to around 2700 rpms, I released the brake and catapulted off the line. The rear wheels broke loose briefly as the fronts desperately tried to grab. I was easily able to steer through it and keep the car straight all the way up to 124 mph, before feeling that I needed to slow down. I looked down at the Vbox display and stared in disbelief. The times were as follows:
0-10 0.2
0-20 0.6
0-30 1.0
0-40 1.4
0-50 1.9
0-60 2.4

After breakfast, the temps were up to about 55 degrees, and I decided to put a couple more gallons of gas in the car and give 1 attempt at running a quarter mile. Knowing that this car can trap over 130mph, and given the length of the road, I knew I would be pushing the limit of when I would need to get on the brakes.
I went through the same routine as before. The launch felt nearly identical to the previous run and off I went. As I approached 130mph I was paying extra attention to how much room I had left, and I had to let up almost right at the end of the quarter mile. Looking at the graph I was about 35 feet before the end of the quarter mile when I let up. My max speed on the run was 133.5 mph, but my speed at the end of the quarter was 132.9 mph. The info on the run is as follows:
Accel results
Speed(mph) Time(s)
0-60 02.5
0-100 05.9
Accel Distance results
Distance() Time(s) @Speed(mph)
0-60' 01.6 44.3
0-330' 04.4 83.5
0-660' 06.7 108.2
0-1320' 10.4 132.9
Below are pictures of the Vbox display for this run. I believe I have gotten about as good of times as I am going to get out of this car, and I am very impressed. Next time I go out to do some Vbox runs it will be in my newly acquired SLR. Thanks to Tym for putting out such a great package, and thanks to Michael (GT RUS) for allowing me to buy his car
