Horror story at Circuit City (installing dension)---Need Advice
Wow. What utter crap.
Let me start by saying sorry for such a horrible incident. That truly is a shame.
I worked as a SM and DM for Circuit City for about 14 years. I've seen many installations go smooth and a few go bad. Rarely, is there a case like yours. Like many shops, there's some inexperienced and even poor techs out there. You just happen to get a couple of idiots. I had my SLK55 when I was at CC. We played with the idea of installing an amp and sub but I was too concerned with the installation especially being they weren't familiar with the car. I decided against the upgrade. Had I went with it, I would have personally selected the tech and been there the whole time.
Hindsight is 20/20 though. Here's what I suggest.
-Contact an attorney
-Contact the store and ask for outside video footage. Note, most stores only have video of the inside. However, you'll at least get video of the install bay. If they do not furnish you with it, ask the police to request the video.
-Contact your local news station. No one likes bad press. This will be ugly and the media loves those types of stories. I'm not sure what it will net you, but CC will respond ASAP. Trust me on that. I've had my share.
Good Luck!

I don't have any additional advice to offer you, however, wanted to say how sorry I am that this happened. What a horrible thing to deal with - I would be so angry. I hope you will let us all know how it turns out.
PS: next time come to the forum for advice on a reputable installer for anything in your area!

This is awful. My heart goes out to you. Here is my advice :
1) Do not enter into any negotiations unless done through your attorney. That business already screwed you once and talking to them will only screw you a second time as they have more experience in these matters .
2) I hope you took photos on the scene . If not do so now in case a curb is cleaned or the scene itself changes.
3) Get multiple opinions on the damage and submit them to yout attorney .
4) If possible have this thread deleted as yout attorney may advise that this litigation remain private .
5) Submit all receipts of the modifications as well as the price of installation to your attorney .
I won't speculate further but I do wish you well .

1. What the HELL are you taking your 997TT to Circuit City for? A vehicle of that caliber should be handled at a pro/specialty shop. I am not surprised at all that they took it out for a spin, I certainly would have.
2. That does really suck. Contact a lawyer as stated above. Well worth it.

You brought a 150k plus car to Circuit City.
They are obligated to return a 150k plus car to you.
IMO....a car that has had it's front end (suspension) smashed will never be a 150k plus car.
Circuit City needs to pay you for complete repairs AND estimated depreciation from the accident.
I would talk to the police about pressing charges for auto theft. When you dropped off your car, you gave Circuit City permission to drive your car for the purpose of the installation. The worker drove your car for purposes other than installation and therefore did not have your permission to use your car. For the duration of the joy ride, the worker was driving your car without your permission. He STOLE your car (albeit for a brief time).
I would say this is just my two cents, but given my lack of a legal background..this is just my cent.

One thing to keep in mind is that the value of this car repaired has now changed and you should get some compensation for that. When it comes time to sell that car you might not be able to hide the fact that the rear suspension has been replaced and that would diminish its value. I'd go to my dealer and find out the delta between a traded in repaired car vs unblemished car and get that amount plus some additional $$$ tacked on to the repairs at the shop of my chosing not theirs.
You'll never feel the same way about that particular car again. That car is damaged goods, and the bad memories will remain. I hope you are made whole by CC, and wind up with a new Turbo. To me that is the only fair remedy. Good luck.

Man I would be livid! I certainly hope the employee who took your car was fired.
Unless you have a really great attorney, I doubt you'll get a new car out of it. YOu do have every right for full repairs, plus cash for the depreciation due to the accident though. Could be some good upgrade money there....(hey you gotta think positive right
)

Definitely hire an attorney, even if all damages are covered get them to cover depreciation hit of no longer being a flawless car.
Its likely circuit city will file bankruptcy at some point soon btw...or at least do a massive restructuring so get this filed into their insurance carrier etc, ASAP! someone here with a legal background can clarify what happens when an insured files BK, I'm not a lawyer so I wont comment.

I read a bunch of horror stories about CC. They drilled into a gas tank, car caught on fire. They money shifted a car, engine/tranny went boom. There are a bunch online. I do feel bad for you, but at the same time I think you're an idiot for taking it to CC
I agree with 1) get a lawyer and 2) the car is damaged goods. Disagree with what I would want to see happen.
My argument would be that the moment those idiots went joyriding in the parking lot and wrecked it, that Circuit City just bought the car. So the way I would want this settled is for:
1) Sign the title over to Circuit City of damaged car.
2) Get a check from Circuit City for the cost of what you paid new, plus the cost of the wheels, etc. of what upgrades you had put into the car to date. If you want to order a new one instead of a new one on the lot, throw in the cost of a rental for whatever number months. Add in your legal costs too.
In my opinion, dealing with repairs, new parts, depreciated value, the dealership, etc., etc. should be their headache not yours. I hope you saved your receipts. What a bunch of a-holes. Go for the jugular. Again, make the car their problem not yours.
