GIAC Reliability Again
GIAC Reliability Again
I guess there is no positive feedback on the reliability of the GIAC software. I put a thread out a few days ago and there are no replies as of now. I have a daily driver and need high reliability. Has anyone had any bad reliability with a GIAC chip in their car? I would have the work done at AWE but I live 2 hours away and don't want to think of dealing with problems with help that far away.
Outside of a cruise control issue -which I dont think was even attributed to the flash per se - Ive never heard of problems on a flashed TT.
Dont want anyone to assume that because no one responded a problem is there, but if you are at the least a bit concerned about reliability then modding may not be for you, perhaps consider an exhaust (if you have not done so already) and 'easier' on the car mods.
More boost will tax your car and its to be expected that wear and tear will increase vs. stock. Small price to pay for the gains though.

Adding an exhaust for example lowers your EGT's. This was monitored and recorded with a scan tool. Lower EGT's means less stress on your turbos. These motors are VERY overbuilt for the power level. That is why big hp numbers can be obtained with a few bolt on mods and bigger turbos...
with proper mods those stock turbos can handle allot, a GIAC chip wont effect anything or cause serious "wear & tear" not anymore than daily driving it hard all the time would. I have GIAC in my Gti and have never had a single issue. Now for others such as APR Performance or REVO that's a different thing.
I have friends running APR who have had fuel cuts and a few issues here and there and with revo i had a friends who's car went into security mode, but that was the fault of the fact we took the battery out to install a electronic boost gauge and the chip re-set the ecu. Revo runs the hardest out of all the chips.
There's people who will be for one chip over another. One issue with APR i have seen is APR's chips turn certain stuff off in your car, the chip finds things that are meant to prevent certain things in your enginge from doing a certain function and the chip swithces those mechanics off in order to gain performance, yeah your gaining HP but at what cost? Giac is the one in the middle, not the most aggresive chip but not the least either, and runs the best IMO. There should be no issues at all with a daily driven 997tt with a chip.

I went to PES (check out the web page on the right>)
Tony did a custom flash for me, he has a new 7500 ft facility and is very user friendly.
I've never heard of any issues with giac either, unless they are more cookie cutter than a custom system(?). Either way, you should be fine. Don't get a second computer and try and 'trick' porsche, the time/miles/etc will never match up and you will surely be ****ed in a warranty issue, vs not trying to conceal your flash. Fraud is worse than ignorance here, imo. My dealer knows all about my flash, never been an issue, of course I've never claimed anything big either.
I saw on another board where a guy in the midwest with a 800hp system, blew his motor to peices, tried to cover it up by going back to stock, pcna turned him down flat, 40k later......

Are you asking if the flash upgrade is going to damage your ECU?
or
Are you asking if the flash upgrade is going to cause damage to your car?
or
Are you asking if the flash upgrade is going to void your engine warranty?
The answer to the first question is no.
The answer to the second question is probably not, unless you seriously abuse your car.
The answer to the third question is probably yes, unless your dealer is mod friendly.

Dyno numbers suggest anywhere from 60-90 HP depending on your baseline. However, don't get caught up in the dyno game.
I have had GIAC programming for both the stock turbos and the upgraded 700 kit turbos. No issues whatsoever. I have never read of a drivability issue on a 997tt with GIAC. I have run mine extensively on the track, for standing mile top speed runs, and sitting in 100F+ Texas rush hour standing traffic. It is flawless
RIP.
