creaking sounds
As a first time Porsche owner and comming from BMW M cars, I am not use to the creaking sounds of the Porsche. I typically do not notice it and don't hear it unless I have the radio off. Is it normal for this car to make subtle noises that sound like plastic components are rubbing or loose. It is more noticeable when driving on rougher surfaces and when the weather is especially cool.
Additionally, I have a steep driveway to my house and I notice when I pull out in the morning and have my steering wheel cranked to the left, as I am comming down the driveway, I hear the suspension creak or make some sort of odd noise. I also notice this when I am making very sharp turns in the parking garage at really low speeds as well. Is this normal? I have heard from another 997TT owner that this is typical of the Porsche suspension when you have the steering wheel cranked all the way and accelerate slow it will make a subtle sound and it is not continuous. Any input would be much appreciated! (I do have Champion springs on the car and have the clear plastic covering around the top and bottom of the springs to help reduce the noise.)
**I am most likely overly paranoid, but I just want to make sure I don't have any issues with the car. Thanks!

Coming from two M's myself yes the car is more noisy than a BMW. You kinda just get used to it. Its certainly not a quiet car.
I have the same sounds when pulling out in the morning, I think its normal, although I am lowered quite a bit on Bilsteins. It's certinaly not bad enough that I'm worried about it and my car has been in so many shops for wheels, alignment, brake pads, that if there was anything going on they would have already mentioned it to me.

Thanks guys for the input. I am way too paranoid sometimes. I forget the fact that I have a well engineered car and it is designed to be driven hard! I tend to baby my cars too much and think potentially there might be something wrong with them.
I'm no engineer, but from my experience, all TTs will "creak" somewhat. My 997TT (and my prior 996TT) creaks particularly when driving very slowly getting in or out a driveway. I think with so much torque the body would eventually break apart if it didn't have some "give". All the rubber between the different body parts must make noise. However, if there was no separation between body parts the piece of sheetmetal would simply crack under the stress. This is one of the TTs warts (if you can call it that). There will be other flaws that you notice after several thousand miles, but none will prevent you from the true pleasure of the TT - which is kicking butt on the street. Anyway, welcome to the crew.
Stop.

Earlier 997TTs were affected...what year is yours? Stephen Kaspar at IA alerted us to this problem early on.

Bob,
Thanks so much for the info., but my 07 TT is not one of the affected units. My VIN is WP0AD29987S786280, which is close, but no cigar. Porsche Roslyn sees her quite regularly (ie. every 4-5 months or so) and they never mentioned anything to me about rewelding. My 03 X50 (a 6 speed that I dearly miss) also creaked big time when going in and out of driveways. Your 02 X50 didn't creak ?

next week my turbo is going in for the THIRD time for a rattling rear drivers side window...starting to really pi$$ me off now, the sheer inconvenience of it. Fix lasts for 1k or so then it starts back up again. Not a way to enjoy the first 5k of ownership thats for sure. Sounds like the window is going to fall out and rattles when you tap on it or drive it.
Long Beach fixed it, soon came back. McKenna fixed it...soon came back. Going back to McKenna.

I had a bad squeak when accelerating slowly or braking slowing and coming in out or in a driveway in the mornings. Especially when the car was cold., My porsche guy nailed it right away. It was where the right spring sat in its bottom holder. Apparently some grid/sand got in there. He blew the crap out of there with an air gun and sprayed some oil in there. It was easy to access to, he opened the hood and pulled a piece of plastic exposing the spring part. The nasty squeak was gone. It came back in a day or two, lasted for a month or two more, but realizing where the sweak was- made it less problematic to put up with for some reason. Finally, one day it was gone, after some 15K miles total. I live in a sandy area, but only took the car to the beach maybe once or twice early on so I am sure the problem didn't arise from that. I really think it was a factory problem, but somehow this tech when driving with me, knew where the squeak was coming from and knew how to fix it.

There are also welds that will tear in the area of the intercooler. There are two spot welds that pull apart on either side and you need to go in there and reweld them up and stich around the area. I had this issue from day one and Porsche knows it is a problem from my car but has done nothing about it. I just did it myself and called it a day.
My '97 C4S and '02 996TT creaked a bit in the dash/windshield area when traversing inclines. They were pretty quiet while driving, though (a creak here and there).
My 997 GT3 was SOLID, no creaks. The tightest car I've ever had. A few little interior noises when hitting bumps, but the chassis (twisting/bending) was super stout, IMO.
My 430 creaks on inclines, too, but not while driving.
If you can track down where it's coming from, Mercedes service departments use a product called Waxilit to lubricate/quiet interior parts. I believe you can order it through a Mercedes parts department.
