Big , comfortable. fast (in a straight line) , gas eating, great customer service (in my region) , don't lease it , safe ...

Boring .

This is a high horsepower family car . I bought a big monster one time . It was actually an E39 M5 when it first came out and paid "over sticker" (I was young ) because I was bitten .

In two months I was back in Porsche .

Every time I ever bought a "mature" car I was bored almost instantly . It didn't matter how fast or confortable . I would look at the big bloated cars and feel old (even when young) .

Even my girlfriend who is younger was thrilled when I leased her an E class and SEVEN months upside down with an impeccable car we were both so bored that she is now driving an M3 . In fact if we didn't need some seat space it would have been a Porsche C2S .

One last thing ... the AMG Benz really can dip in resale .

If you must have it .. I wish you the best .

I just can't relate to it until one day 30 years from now when I am old enough to need a cane or walker .

I agree with yrralis.. But if you decided for an AMG S-class. Get the S63, its more than enough for the S & and the performance numbers are so close.

yeah I know it's kinda of a boat and a 1/2.. was looking at ebay on s65 my god they loose their value, a lot! I think a dropped s65 does look really ill thou but I know what you mean about the tightness of the TT p-car over all...

I owned a CL65- fast in the straights as mentioned but IMHO it had no soul (if a car is allowed one the Pcar has it). The steering and brake feel were lacking and the suspension was soft. Of course these are all things expected from a car nearly weighing 5k lbs and Benz in general Interiorwise the car has great leather and most of the amenities that would be expected with a 185k car. Its the flagship of the big boys at Benz and I still have much respect for the V12TT engine especially when chipped... the performance will beat the 63 down but the value is just not there.

If you get it, dont retail it, you will be buried for ever and a day. The lease programs suck too but at least you can walk away from it after 2 or 3 years and not be an owner of one of the fastest depreciating cars dollarwise out there.

I personally love it. But not as your only car - I've considered it heavily and I've test driven several already, but it would be to replace my cls63 only because it's tight with the baby in the back. But I have a couple other toys to play with so the s65 wouldn't get too boring...I love the s65, huge power and verrrry comfortable. But best bet would be used under 10k miles IMO, they depreciate incredibly and like others said, you'll be buried forever!

I'll more than likely own one next year at some point.

I can only wonder why you'd go from a P-Car to one of the biggest 4 door cars on the market? I don't know how to compare the two. However, I understand one of each. That's (kind of) what I (we) did. The TT-Cab, E350 (full AMG pkg makes it slightly tossable), and a Ridgeline. Covered all the bases - and the E-Class doesn't drip depreciation like the S-Classes - then again you don't quite get the prestige the S-Class delivers. If you can wait till June/July, the newest E-63 should be a monster and would be my 4 door choice over any S-Class from Merc or Audi.
There's my 2 and-a-half cents.
Why are you considering such a radical change of sleds?

Well, ^^^ I am in the market for a new toy and I have now owned a 996 and a 997, I love it but I am exploring new ideas. I would get the S65 but its so F-ing huge, and the twisties factor is huge for me. The dealer told me that in Europe they have a shortened S class but that it will never be avail in good old USA... I have been looking also at a CL65 which I might say, does also look sinister dropped, but I just don't know about the rear end I think 360 is also right about buying a slightly used 65 under 10K in miles, that makes the most sense. Also, I do like the designo package for AMG, it does give it a touch of it's own. If I go with a TT p-car in the end, as I have the last 2 times, are there any H.P. changes or any major changes for 09 or 2010??? My lease runs up in July 09...I am confused about what to get this time around!!! Jaguar sucks, masseratti is garbage, anything english is trouble, would never even think of a nissan and ferraris are too high profile. WTF do I do ???

a little less than a year ago i leased an e63-buying it is tough, as it's depreciation is legendary-they had a good lease last year, it was about $1000 down (ccr), 27 months at $1200/month, tax included (10000 miles a year). not a bad lease for a msrp $93000 car. i see now that most dealers are giving $20,000 off on 08 cars to buy. that would still be a tough deal, as i would be afraid that an 08 would be worth about 50-55k. i like the car-it isn't anywhere as boaty as an s model. it still is far from a nimble sedan, but it is very comfortable, as fast as a c-6 vette, a very safe car that is marvelously equipt and it is a great family car. i wouldn't want it as my only car, but as i have a 997tt, and i was able to get this great performing sedan in a 2 year lease, it seemed to me to be a good idea.

No mention of BMW? M5? Alpina B7?

Remember though, a "sport sedan" is no replacement for a sports car. They're practical with a bit of fun thrown in for good measure (some more than others), but you'll be craving true speed, handling, braking within weeks.

The bmw m5 and apina b7 are good cars but don't have the tuning capabilities of the S65 which is bi-turbo. Software, exhaust, and cooler upgrade gets you some pretty good numbers. But I would buy one pre-owned.....

How about a CLS55 if you want to make it easy to chip or better yet a CLS63. There was an '08 on ebay with about 15K mi the other day for about 60K.... Sedan practicality with higher HP and beautiful lines.
