Interesting discussion points, particularly TME's comments. However, it seems to me his analysis of annual cost leaves out the initial investment expense. A $100k purchase with a $55k sale 5 years later does result in a $45,000 loss which equals @ $750/mo. but at a 5% capitalization rate you also left $5,000 a year on the table. So your cost is actually $25k in lost interest plus $45k depreciation which totals $70k or a monthly expense of $1333 over 5 yrs. This also does not factor in sales tax or warranty coverage/repair issues.

If you want to really get it right then you take the present value of 100,000 in 5 years (78,352) which leaves 3,900 a year on the table so it cost you 19,500 in lost interest and you need to put a value on making a 1,000 a month car payment so lets low ball it and call it 5,000. 45,000 depreciation + 19,500 lost interest - 5,000 payment equivalent equalizer = less than 1,000 a month. Both cars need maint & insurance, repairs ect.... Where can you lease a 125,000 car for under 1,000??? And have turbo fun!!!

Quote: What these numbers represent to me is that it makes no sense to pay 150K for an 09 .
.
Precisely. And i also think .2 owners will also see some pain very soon when the new 991/998 carrera car is released which is not so far off hence me not changing my 08 till 991/998 arrives. Ie: why take two baths etc.
Even tho 997tt.2 will remain "current" until 991/998 997tt arrives any new iteration of the 911 will bring about a devaluation in all models. I recall the 996tt taking a significant drop when the 997 was released as it was a new designed car inside and out. The signs of change in the wind for the turbo bought about some market jitters. I saw that many turbo owners dropped out of their 996tt's to be in the new 997S cars instead. Crazy this may sound for some, but for those P owners who wanted to be seen in the latest and the greatest they were prepared to sacrafice a bit of performance....and the new 997S wasnt slow. I recall when i bought my new 997S that there were some really nice 996tt's around for much less dollars. Very tempting...but i stuck with the 997S purchase.
