FYI Manheim is a dumping ground for problem cars. Think about it, why would a dealer be selling an expensive car there when they can be retailing it for thousands more? Buying from dealer auctions is an enormous risk and their PSI (post-sale inspection) is completely worthless.

 

^manhein is where BANKS sell their lease returns to dealers.

a dealership doesnt own the car when the lease matures. the bank owns it. they send the cars on the east coast out to Manheim for dealerships to buy.

Before you rely too strongly on these prices, I would recommend taking the following into account:
1. Are these Porsche dealer only auctions - most off lse cars are sold on this basis.
2. What is the cost of a CPO wrty.
3. what is the cost of bringing the car up to CPO standards.
4. Perhaps the dealer is entitled to enough to pay the salesperson and keep the "lights on" not to bring into account whether they are entitled to a fair profit for their services.
5, By this time you can probably add another $6k to $10k to the price of the auctioned car.

Yes but what you are forgetting is that every Porsche dealer in the region has looked at the lease turn in and decided if it is nice enough to bu before the auction. That being said most of the auction cars are turds or problem cars.

Trust me I see them at every auction. 1 out of 20 turbos at the sale are nice enough for a car enthusiast.

 

That's not entirely true. The banks end up with a lot of cars (generally) 3 years after they lease new ones out. More than they can move on their lots. IE you will see a lot f 07s in 2010, a lot of 2008 in 2011. Of course there are also 2 year-6 year leases out there. From what I have seen you setart seeing lease returns en mass in the 3 year range.

That of course does not mean that there aren't a few lemons in the mix. It is an as-is auction after-all.
