09 TT delivered but with factory defect..need advice!

Last week i maid a full payment for my 09 6MT TT. The sales manager told me that before handing the car to the customer it should pass the ( PDI ), which simply means the TT will be scanned by an instrument to see wheather there is any manufacturing defect from the factory or not. The next day he told me something is wrong with the car, it isnt engaging first, second and reverse gear and their is probably a problem with your clutch ! He also told me that i'm eligible for a full refund. Today the sales guy called me again and tried convincing me to buy the car, he said after inspection their was nothing serious. They had the gearbox off for diagnosis and the problem appeared to be with the pressure plate. He said the pressure plate was stuck and now its fixed and the car is perfect.

Guys, should i take the TT or my money back ? how serious is the clutch/pressure plate issue ? will it likely create reliability issues ?

It's documented there was a problem at delivery, but fixed by an authorized repair facility. If there's a problem in the future it isn't on you.

Right?

If you decide to take delivery have the incident notated on your delivery paperwork; but not on anything that would show up on carfax. Request a discount and/or upgraded options such as ccb brakes, and demand servicing be provided free of cost for a set period of time. Just my 2c

Take this into consideration before you decide:

1. I know you've been waiting a long time for your car...don't make a impulsive decision.

2. In some states, dealers are not required to report defects found on the car upon arrival. They are allowed to repair to "factory specs" and sell for full contracted price without disclosure or transparency. This should make you question how often this really happens to other vehicles.

3. If you are planning to negoatiate a new price, and they won't budge much, make them give you something in return like 15K service for free, etc.

4. If you accept the car, make sure there is documentation for the future, and that their repair carries warranty to the extent of the rest of the vehicle. Have them make an addendum to your contract.

I would accept the car if Porsche provides an extended warranty.

Nothing beats having a 5 year/100,000 mile warranty on the powertrain.

^^^What he said. Just make sure you get whatever you agree to in writing. If it's not in writing, it never happened.

I can understand requesting a discount on some upgrades as you are showing you are still willing to spend money and work with the dealer for your hassles, but demanding servicing be provided free of cost for a set period of time? Why should the dealer have to eat something beyond what was wrong from the factory. They fixed the problem, and it is documented, so any similar failure in the future wouldn't be charged to the customer. Demanding free service is something that will bite the customer's wallet in the future if he ever goes back for service there in the future on his own dime, because they are going to stick it to him $$$ to make up for it. Those 15k mile services would probably find additional items that need to be replaced if you know what I mean. New parts fail, it happens a lot more often than you might think. Build a good relationship with your dealer, or you will end up paying for it in the long run IMHO.

Pressure plate is an easy fix. Not a big issue. I would just take delivery and demand a discount.

I would take it. Clutches are not typically warranty covered items. Now there is reason for them to cover a new clutch within reasonable miles if you wear one out.
