Plastic Smooths Out My Ride
Plastic Smooths Out My Ride
Here are a few shots of some blue plastic ring inserts and black coiled plastic that were installed a few months ago. I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical, but as promised they made the ride noticeably smoother and a bit quieter on bumps. I highly recommend this relatively inexpensive mod.
Alex (Sharky) was telling me that the aftermarket kits now have these rings included. The wraps are an additional mod.
I know this is not 997TT related but it's really nice eye candy. I've attached a few pics of an older 3.5 liter engine, just rebuilt by S-Car-Go with in-house fabrications, that will produce around 600hp. It's going into a 2500 lb. older 911 with a lot of other track setup mods. The driver better make sure he has good medical.

They are the Techart PASM kit.
The springs need to be removed so the plastic rings can be slipped over. The coiled wraps would require that as well I guess. They are heat shrinked over the springs so they don't move. I'd had other things done so I don't have the exact labor breakdown.

You may be right as to the type and installation method. I recall my tuner saying that they heat shrink them but they don't look like they have been shrunk. I'll ask him. Maybe he decided to use a different material. Yes. they will not last a very long time but I think they'll last for a long enough time to make it worth it for me - especially if they don't have to remove the strut.
I assume you got this done because you were hearing a lot of raddle at low speeds. I have the same problem, mostly from the rear with my bilsteins. I've had them on the car for about 8 months now. Does anyone else with the bilsteins have the same problem?
No. I didn't have any rattles or anything that I noticed. But I do think I noticed a bit quieter ride. The sound of running over bumps in the road seem a bit muted.
The most noticeable thing was the smoother ride that I believe was attributable to the plastic rings and I guess the wraps too when they compress and contact each other.
You should have the rears checked for loose bolts, etc..

thanks for the info. I think it might be my sway bar links that might be creating the rattle. I am looking to upgrade them but do not know which ones to go with. I'm thinking trg.
