Thinking about ordering a Turbo
Thinking about ordering a Turbo
Well I completely love my custom built VF-Engineering / EVOMS supercharged 997s cab, but I am looking for more. Ideally, after test driving a PDK 9974S today I think I want a PDK Turbo coup or cab when they become available, but would opt for a currently available 6 speed Turbo cab. I have extensively driven and have access to a 2004 996 Turbo (I like my supercharged 997S better) and sporadically driven a 997 Turbo (I like the feel of the 997 Turbo better than my 997S), I am looking for recommendations and what I should be looking for.
Thanks in advance

I have not driven any of the cars mentioned however I am around them almost daily.
I like the look of the 997 turbo a hell of a lot more then I like the 996 turbo look. I like the look of the coupe better then the cab also.
Completely based on aesthetics go with the 997 turbo. It looks like you like the feel of the 997 turbo also so I would say the only question you have to be answered is do you want a 997 turbo cab or coupe?
I hope I helped a little (even though I doubt I did).

You mention a lot of cars which are quite different. I will try and organize what you expressed into my reply. I will extract the 2004 Turbo as its different model and narrow it down to these four :a) your current 997, b) the 997.2 PDK , c) the current 997tt, and d) the future 997tt PDK . I will also differentiate between coupe and cab to make some points as well.
1) Your current car is a highly modified two wheel drive cab and it differs greatly from what you test drove .
The first thing you have to decide is simple --coupe or cab ? I am a coupe person so my extreme bias will reveal itself . I prefer the peformance , top up visibility, acoustic quality , lack of potential for leaks , and dislike having road filth blow on me and my car's cabin . But I am very neurotic .
2) AWD Vs 2WD - The C4S is very different than the C2S or the Turbo . It's a great car for some regions . The Turbo fuses with the AWD to keep that power manageable for an ordinary driver . It's a great car . So is the cab .. and BTW --locally Turbo cabs are very plentiful on dealership lots and pricing might be beneficial .
3) Current Turbo Vs 997.2 -- The "normally aspirated" guys will often post that they prefer the seamless raw acceleration of the 997.2 . Of course I debate them because i had TWO 997S cars . They are great cars but a Turbo can be modified to make such a different driving experience . Stock -the Turbo IMO is boring. It's quiet, has lag, and doesn't feel connected . The suspension is soft , the technology (Nav , Radio ) is deplorable and it needs help . A few bolt on parts and suspension tweak and you are off to having a blast with a completely different car which can not ever be accomplished with a 997.2 .
4) The future Turbo -- Too many unknowns . The idea of an "integrated" dry sump sounds like a big change and PDK makes it even more detatched .
Conclusion --
1st choice - 997tt Coupe (manual tranmission)
I won't even place 2nd or beyond . To me the margin is that great.

In this economy if you order a turbo you are going to suffer 40-50k of depreciation.
Right now 07 TTs are heading to the high $70K range. As soon as you drive it off the lot your 2009 or 2010 is going to lose a lot of money right off the bat. I think there are over 650 twin turbos for sale nation wide. You should be able to find a almost new TT in the color and options you want without having to pay for the Newness. Minus what ever discount you negotiate with your dealer.

Many dealers are offering a significant discount on a new car. When I say significant, I'm talking about $35k+ off. My buddy just bought one for right around that price without much haggling. The dealer's essentially taking the depreciation for you before you even drive it. That's a deal.
Oldguy mentioned as well. A slightly used 7tt would be easily under $90k. Now is the time to buy

Please show me an authorized Porsche dealership selling a Turbo with less than 10K miles and no paint damage for under 95K ????
I have seen none . I sent one poster to inquire about 07 Turbo in Norcal which was a friends former car (impeccable/stock) and they wanted 106K .
Locally one can get great discounts on 08 leftovers but not the "35 K " that is being thrown on the thread . That is under dealers cost on a new car. In fact if the original poster wants a Turbo cab they do have them . I saw a beautful atlas grey car last week that caught my eye .
Opposite sides of the map seem to be priced quite similar.

If you decide to order a 2010 Turbo coupe, I would suggest you look at the new Spyder Wheels option for the car. I was in the process of buying an 09, but really like the look of those wheels. However, production for 09 coupes have ended, and I will look for a 2010, probably PDK if offered/ready, as well.
Good luck!

Thanks for all the responses. As stated by yrralis1 and confirmed by my sales guy at Champion,
"The future Turbo -- Too many unknowns . The idea of an "integrated" dry sump sounds like a big change and PDK makes it even more detatched"
as well as the fact we dont even know if there is going to be a 2010 Turbo model and when it may be introduced and available.
That being said, I could live with a 2009 or 2010 (if availbale) six speed with PCM 3.0 and will probably test drive one this week.
I am still leaning towards a PDK Turbo Cab as I love driving with the top down in south Florida. I may however keep my 997S Cab and go with a Turbo Coupe if the wife doesnt get too bent out of shape

Thanks.
I' like to know too. By the way IlliniCANE... when did you graduate Miami?
I grew up in Miami, and always bled orange and green. U know what I mean. Alas, later in life, I was able to get my masters from the U, in 2003!

Slightly used 2007 tts (clean, less than 10k miles) are hardly readily available below $90k. There are some, but it takes some looking. Show me one new 997 anything; gt3, S, base, tt that is going for $35k below MSRP.
