i heard a story last year at the glen: dominick farnbacher showed up at a de event and was absolutely flying around the track. rumor was they had to ask him to dial it back a bit, but of course people asked him what his speed secret was. he said he shifted with only his fingertips. hope that helps, i know i try to do the same now.

I think this happens a lot from drivers switching from a US HP car to one with an overseas vehicle with an interference engine. With the older US-HP cars, brakes were not so good, and 2nd gear was used some to slow the car down. With interference engine cars like BMW and porsche, brakes are built effectively enough where using the engine should never be a option. I did notice that a warning sign is in the porsche driver's manual about mechanical overrevs, but no such warning in the BMW manual.

Something very useful an instructor at the Porsche Sport Driving School told me is to have fast footwork and slow hands at the track. Your other option in that situation is just don't downshift if things are happening too fast, leave it in high gear and blow off the corner. It's quite easy to make time up in the straights in these cars, and nobody is paying us to race.

Where would one even buy a sequential shifter? Price for one of these puppies?

P.S. Dad's friend was racing along the freeway and hit 2nd instead of 4th in his 2003 360. I was told one of the pistons blew right through the manifold or something of that nature.
