Who is keeping their 997tt "forever" ?
Until death do us part....
I agree that we may have seen the peak--between the company's economic errors and fuel economy standards, it will be hard for Porsche to top what it's already done.

+1 on the "done with forever"...The only way to keep something forever, unless starting a collection, would be to never read car magazines, never go online, and never go to dealerships. Considering I spend my life reading car magazines, going online to read car news, and driving through dealerships, I dont think I could ever have anything forever, because technology almost always gets better. Sure...any car company can have a bad year, or make only lateral moves with a new gen car, but for the most part, the next gen of almost all cars is rejected upfront, and then followed by major acceptance and love. Im saying most of the time...not all the time. With that being said...some cars are early classics and keepers. I suppose all of that is in the hands of the driver. I say "if you have a car and love it...more power to you and if you have modified it to a true original, than even more power to you, and it is hard at that point to compare it to anything.

Well...I get very attached to cars. I can't even bring myself to sell my 9 year old BMW that just sits and collects dust! With the amount of money I've spent and will never recoup on this car...it will be with me for ages.
If I had a stock Turbo then it certainly would NOT be a keeper.
There is a BIG difference between the car I picked up from the factory and the car I have today.
Now it is unique and twice the car it was before. See my magazine article I posted over on Rennteam:

It's just a car, guys.
Given the political winds, however, I think we are exiting the "Golden Era of Performance Cars" and, in 10 years, we will all look back at the last 10 years as being among the best to be alive as car enthusiasts. As a result, the 997TT may have a lot of staying power--- but forever? No way-- that's a long time.

AND, now that a person can get into a "hardly used" 997TT for $90k plus or minus, how can you go wrong? - a car with more miles $80-85k!! There's no other better buy on the planet??!! I still a BIG fan of GT3's also - those are now sub $90k if you look around.

So lets say the car becomes like a boat where it's parked somewhere and used on special drives . It might even be agood thing because going to the supermarket one can use any car .
My point is that speed is timeless , Humans have always had a natural competitive desire and there's only so much fullfillment that a species can attain in a Prius.
i would love to say i am keeping this forever, but Porsche is so good at making technological advancements with each new series that when the 997 gets replaced, it will likely be too insane to pass up!
