IMHO the looks are not that appealing and I believe will become "dated" while the 997 is a classic look.
Totally agree with you Justin. And if one is buying a car just for its look, then any Aston Martin will do better than the R8.

How many groceries bags can you fit in the TT? Better yet, will my baseball equipment fit in the trunk? Would hate to put dirty equipment in the back seat.

Not being sarcastic. the 63 is up in 5 months and I have my eye on a 997TT white/red interior with carbon fiber package. Looks striking!!

I play in a softball league every Sunday...never had a problem with my gear.

The trunk is bigger than you think but it's no SUV

theres a used R8 at my local Audi dealer so I will drop by for a test drive shortly, but am leaning on keeping the turbo and getting the software done like I originally intended. Doubt I could live with performance difference and will probably have buyer's remorse once the V10 is released...

Thanks for all the inputs, you guys are very persuading

Try asking the same question on an Audi board!

Any way, I seriously doubt you'll regret keeping the turbo...

One more question...what software are you considering? FWIW I have the GIAC and it literally transforms the car...it's fantastic...AND kills your gas mileage...

To the previous comment; why would one need a yellow turbo to get any looks? and as far as the R8 surpassing the 997 in the looks department - that is also a matter of opinion. I get plenty of looks with my black turbo, at times it does get a bit tedious, and yes I have been a passenger in an r8, turns just as much heads as my turbo.

raclaims: going with evomsit primarily since sharkwerks is local to me and heard they are the best around. so gas mileage really suffers after software? or is it because your foot is always on the gas now

I've never driven a car with Evomsit software but I've never heard anything bad about it...so please post up your review after you get it.

I think the gas mileage must relate to the flash...yes I do hit the throttle now and again for fun but it's far from all the time...I have been surprised at the loss in MPG actually...I'm around 16 now whereas I was in the low 20s before the flash.

Yes it's worth it...but it was surprising anyway...

The R8 looks great, but you might have to do some mods to make it a little faster. You will definitely feel a lack of torque and will no longer have the great feeling when the turbo kicks in.

Short of forced induction, no modifications will bring it anywhere near the 997TT, Z06, GT-R, Gallardo...competition that the R8 is directed at.

UGR or Heffner TT if you got the means. They have done wonders with the sister chassis Gallardo. You wont be missing the turbo or be playing second fiddle to any of the cars mentioned after that.

I agree with CJPhelps - if you are considering either of the Audi R8/10 variants based on the look and balance of the car at speed, why not get a Gallardo? They are much prettier cars and I believe they are now made by the same company.

everyone has an opinion on looks... if you're in awe of the R8 (which many are), that's great... I think Audi's actually look good even many years later, again, just my opinion. if you don't track the car, you're basically comparing looks vs. street performance... and the TT wins easily.. if you track the car, the R8 is much more competent than many guys are leading on... it's very well balanced on a track and can easily keep up with a turbo on most tracks.

It's definitely an eye-grabber but for me, more out of curiosity than anything else. For increased R8 performance, wait for the R8V10 with a detuned Lambo engine that puts out 525 AWHP.
