997 TT Tip launching advice.

Sooooo I finally taded in my 06 Cayman S for an 07 Turbo Tip w/ sport chrono. So needless to say I grabbed my G-Timer and tested the 0-60. Got some consistent runs as 3.10 and 3.14 btw. (I only weigh about 135lbs and had no passengers in the car) The car is stock, no performance mods.

But anyways to my point. As much as i would love Break-Launching the car at every stop light I cringe at thinking that it might damage the car.

Can the Tipronic S handle this? What part/parts of the tran would actually fail if under this kind of use. Has anyone ever actually heard of a 997 tip S failing from break launching?

Tiptronic can handle this, but I do not know for how long. And it is not recommended do that launces a lot in a row.

Tip launch is much safer than manual. In manual tranny you have to drop clutch at 4000-5000rpm which give a lot of shock to the clutch ,tyres and drive train.
In Tip you simply brake launch it. No friction parts, the only thing is elevated tranny oil temp due to loading the torque converter which is not much due to low launch RPM (brake torque stall around around 2500RPM)
Maybe if you brake torque for more than 5 secs the oil temp can rise quite high. But for normal launch (full brake, full throttle, release brake) in 1 sec succession, oil temp increase should be no problem.

Not sure how accurate the G-timer is, but those times best any published times I have read. I have done the brake torque launch a few times and it is a blast (literally!). I think temps. would be your main concern as stated above. With the fluid coupling (torque convertor) between the engine and the drive components the shock is much less to the drive train. In addition these "slush boxes" are the same ones sitting in Mercedes vehicles with 738lbft of torque going through them, so I don't think our 460lbft is going to hurt it.

Yeah, those numbers seems very low for stock 997TT. Maybe the number would be different to GPS based PerformanceBox (used by most of magazines and manufacturers)
I also test with accelerometer based Escort , and the number is 0.3 secs quicker than PerformanceBox, but there are few parameter that can be adjusted such as roll out and tilt angle under acceleration (rear engine car tends to squat more)

Nice threat, i would also like to know how many brake launches can it hold or if a modded car can be brake launched with no problems.

Does it says anywhere in the manual how to brake launch?

As there are no parts to wear I think we can do unlimited brake launch, maybe with rest 5 minutes interval before do another. It's better to avoid stalling the tq conveter too long to keep the tranny oil down. On drag race I press full brake after lining up the tyrein starting grid, press full brake on first yellow light up and release the brake when the third yellow light up. This 1 sec stall should enough to built boost. Reaction time is around .5 sec with the Tip.
Anyway you should practice. Remember to shut off the PSM, and turn on sport mode.

Switch off all of your PSMs and traction controls...Manual in 1 gear.....brake....grab the steering wheel....hold tight...wait till you reach 0.6-0.7 boost then lauch....make sure you have chrono ode activated...let go the brakes while pressing WOT...

I dont think boost will rise when loading the torque converter.
