Rattles in the dashboard and rear quarter panel
Rattles in the dashboard and rear quarter panel
I jsut picked up an 08 997 Turbo. Very clean, tracked but with only 4k miles. No aftermarket work, and OBD was clean on over-revs.
When I get the car up over 70mph on a rough surface, the car develops a rattle in the dash and in the rear quarterpanel - behind my left ear somewhere.
Has anyone had issues with rattles? Any remedies would be welcome. Planning to take it into the dealer to ahve them take a look but I htought someone out there might have been through a similar experience.
Thsi car is laoded with Carbon Fiber and I wonder if that has anything to do with it.
THANKS!

At about 2000 miles our car developed a squeak that seemed to originate from somewhere inside the passenger side of the right rear quarter panel area. It was most noticeable at low speeds on rough pavement.
According to the dealer, the lower edge of the rear window had not been fully mounted in the rubber seal and was coming in contact with metal during body flex. This was a very quick fix by the dealer.

Mines pretty good, I had a death rattle from the driver rear window, glass was lose...quite the fiasco with dealer fixing it 3x but now its fixed 100% after new glass was replaced and a door seal.
I typically hunt down and fix these on my own, dealers will not take as much care and simply stuff voids with that expanding foam. Even with my GMG setup the car is near silent on par with my Civic Hybrid for cabin creaks and rattles...they are only occasional and dependant on road surface. Frankly for a car of this type (performance) its shocking how quiet it is.
You have to live with some noises, not even a Rolls or Bentley is going to have zero.
There have been some issues though that plague early models i.e. some bad welds on the rear of the turbo. As for dash, just check the cover it in leather options and avoid the plastic rattles

Porsches rattle!
Every single one!
You have (2) options:
1. Turn up the radio
2. Push down with your right foot.
I favor option 2

I have a rattle around the gear shift and also the passenger rear side window. The side window didn't show up till they tried to fix the water leak in the rear side windows by tightening them.. Anyone else have small beads of water on the inside of rear side windows after washing the car? Dealer is supposed to have posed the question to Porsche but I've not heard back. They tested 3 other cars and they all had a similar issue.
rear side window rattles...
FYI - I took care of my side rear window rattle/buzzing by pressing a length of rubber vacuum hose between the inside of the window and moulding/side inner panel - just press it in until it is not visible. It cured my annoying rattle 5K miles ago with no return after a year. To defend the marque, not a single other rattle in this 08 or the 07 TT I had before. If Porsche's did have incurable rattles as a rule, I'd find another car to drive....it would personally make me crazy. Also, not a single rattle in the 07C4S that I had in between the 07TT and 08TT.

Just picked up a 997 GT3 with a crazy buzz / rattle on the left side rear window. Did you press the hose between the window and inner side panel at the bottom of the widow and then press the window seal back on?
Left rear is a common problem but its more serious, get it looked at. There are bolts pressed into the glass, they are supposed to be secure but it looks like they have a number of them backing out as with my car. Check with dealer, I had all new glass put in to fix it after numerous attempts at dealer and self inflicted
