2010 997 TT on order - should I order PTV

I have a new 997TT on order for November build and need to finalize the configuration by tomorrow. I am comfortable with all the options (PDK, PCCB, Sport Chrono...) but I did not order PTV for lack of information. I track the car (DE) about 20 days per year and do not want anything that will detract from the track experience. I usually run with PASM on. Can anyone give me any more information such as weight, intrusiveness, brake wear, etc. on PTV?

I would normally say absolutely because in addition to the obvious benefits of a torque vectoring system, it is the only way to get axle diff. lock from the options list I viewed. I would imagine that you will have additional brake wear because of PSM or PTM anyway, however, PTV would appear to add to the wear issue.

Anybody's guess at this point, and I am speculating and guessing too, but for the fun of it: My understanding is it's a "clutch type differential" that manipulates torque to individual wheel and does NOT involve braking (AFAIK). Anyone please correct me if I am wrong.

This, and PDK, could be the secret to Porsche's plan to beating GTR at the ring.
So what is it?
1. Unnecessary driver's aid? A total waste of money? Robot driving for you?
2. A game-changing option that stabilizes rear end behavior and makes all of us wish we have this on our 997.1 Turbo?

My vote: I am leaning towards 2. Making this option IMHO a must-have. I wouldn't take a chance NOT ordering it if I were you.

BTW, the GTR does have this technology, right?

According to Porsche's website, PTV uses specific wheel braking. You can not get axle diff lock w/o it either.

If you track 20 days per year then I would skip PCCB unless you plan on replacing with steel rotors after the fact.

GTR's VDC with preview braking is a similer system.thats why it feels much easier to drive fast on the track.

If you want better track performance you shoudl also get the dynamic engine/Drivetrain mounts system. They first used on 997.2 GT3 and now available for the 997.2 turbo. It sounds like a very smart reslution to go faster corners.

Thanks for all the help

Thanks for the input. I added PTV to my order as its primary function seem to be to replace the old limited slip differential. I'll let you know how it performs on the track.

The dynamic engine mounts are part of the sports chrono package as is launch control. That explains part of the price increase.

The PCCB option is one I debated at length. I have PCCB on my 07 TT and I love them. If the car was track only, I would go with steel but since it is both, I am sticking with ceramics. The rotors on the 07 are holding up well at this time but I change pads religiously. Rears every 6 or 7 track days, fronts less often. If the rotors fail, I will probably switch to steel at that point.

In the end, here is the order, at MSRP:
