Pressure washer

My 996ttS had ceramic brakes, the dust off the 997tt reds is driving me crazy.
Has anyone had luck using a pressure washer just on the wheels?
and if so how much pressure is enough?
Thanks, Bob

You should NOT use a pressure washer for the wheels, the pressure will take grease of where it is needed, that can become very expensive very quick. Use some special cleaning product, you can buy it cheap at Wallmart or Auto Parts.
Hope that helps!

Wow!

good to know. I have heard not to use them on body work, etc. but though it might be ideal for the wheels.
Thanks!

I disagree with you.

Pressure washing depends on the PSI of the machine, the type of wand, and the proximity to the car. You are using it improperly if you are using it to blast away debris.

I would challenge you to use a fan spray at 1800 PSI, and put your hand in front of it at 12-16 inches. I hardly think that it is any more harsh than driving in the rain at 60mph.

I have used a pressure washer with a cam foam spray (which is what many professional detailers use) to presoak the car and wheels, then a wide fan to spray it down with deionized water when completed. A pressure washer is completely safe if used properly, uses less deionized water, saves time, and is very effective. You are using it improperly if you are using it to blast away debris. It is especially useful before you use a wheel brush to presoak the wheels.

If you are worried about a pressure spray washing away grease, I'd definately stay away from "Walmart" remedies.

It was a balmy 42 degrees this afternoon, so I thought I'd illustrate my point...

I went with a Karcher 3000 PSI 2.5 GPM Honda powered unit. Its enough power, I think not too much either, so far I haven't blown any bits off.
Thanks for the advice!
