FVD's sound great....for a 997TT. There is just no way to make it sound as good as a V10 or a NA flat 6.

While the Turbo will have greater feedback, you still cannot duplicate RWD handling feel with AWD, PERIOD.

You also have to give credit to the fact that

#1 New cars have not settled yet and will not feel the same as ones with some miles on them.

#2 Once you get used to a car, getting into another one (especially a new one), can unsettle your comfort zone.

A Cab Turbo is not exactly the definition in road feel and feedback precision.

the reviewer was comparing it vs his m6 cab which weighs > 4300lb, vs the TT which i think is ~ 3600lb.

personally i think the m6 real competition in the Benz SL amg.
Lastly, the PDK in my C2s is way better than any SMG I've driven.

I will be trading in my M5 in April when my 997.2 PDK arrives. I made this decision under the assumption that I will feel like many of the responses on this board as opposed to those on the M5 board. Based on my limited experience driving the turbo and my vast experience driving the M5, I have a feeling my assumption will be proven right. The M5 is a great car, and would recommend for anyone looking for a 4 door sedan (definitely prefer M's over AMG's). But it is just not that engaging or exciting to drive. It weighs 4000+ lbs and you notice every pound. The V10 is great between 4,000-8,000 rpms, but you really have to get to that range to have some fun. Below 4,000 is disappointing. I will miss the heads-up display and the active side bolsters - both of which I thought were gimmicks but actually are very useful. Bottom line is that acceleration and handling are vastly better in the turbo and those are the two most important ingredients to having fun behind the wheel.

Trust, me, I do not covet the SMG trans in the M5,M6 AT ALL!!!

I still think it was a fair evaluation, seamless shifting and AWD will take a lot from the experience and feel. You have to factor in some bias as well like most of us have for our current rides.

Main reason I prefer the E39 M5, even though the torque numbers are similar between the two it just feels so much torquier and grunty especially down low. Even though the V10 is obviously faster, I like the way the E39 drives more, it feels more raw.

I'll take an e49 540i sport with an M package over the new m5. It may not have the power but the chassis and handling, 6 spd trans and its got enough grunt to have fun, I saw I guy on the track schooling much faster cars in one of these.

Oh, and I also had an M5 prior to my 997TT. I won't go into the narrative part of it but all of the empirical evidence shows that people graduate from the M5/6 to 997tt, not so much the other way around!
Still no change in our taxation system. There are rumours about change, but nothing yet confirmed. The last rumour said it will change in April, will see. Till then with Mannheim auction prices for a 997TT 80-90 000 USD you will only get a Volvo in FInland...

I just read a report from state treasury and the new car tax system has been a success. Well, in their mind. I don't there will be any kind of change. Well at least not for better...

The good thing is that they are selling almost no new cars, I think this might be the first time that the government would want to change intoa a tax system based on usage that would bring steady income to the government also during the recession. But I am also sceptic...

Anyone who thinks the M6 is an "engineering marvel" doesn't know high performance cars. I've had experience driving both of these cars as well and I would definitely go with the turbo every day of the week and twice on Sunday!

-just sayin

Sorry, not going to happen as long as Keskusta is in power. In the County side distances are long and this party will not allow costs to go up on traveling. But, I think I'll wait past April. I have offer on the table for 2010, but I can't get rid of 2008 Techart Turbo I have.

I know car business is in complete halt in Finland at the moment. Car dealers are suffering big time. So in that sense something should be done...
