It's Official: Porsche Turbo S announced
I was the biggest 0-60 junkie of anyone I've ever met...
Bought the Nissan GTR for the claimed #'s. While the stock LC voided warranty, the factory revised flash allowed for LC of sorts. I was able to achieve 3.7's, when the GTR was perfectly set up (not easy). But, it was so damn boring due to lack of sound and feeling...very Playstation-esque.
If you want #'s, go get it. But damn lame.
That said, cars like the GT2, Scud and LP560 offer serious emotion in how they achieve the #'s. I'd have to drive the new S, but with PDK can it be too far off the souless GTR experience? I hope it is.
But I know I wont buy a sports car again for the #'s. A 360 or 360CS, or GT3 can bring more smiles to me.
Last note...at $160k+ for the S, you can get a low mileage LP560-4 or 07 F430 Spider...just sayin'.

Lot to risk on an all new non GT1 derived block... I would lease one first and decide wether it's a keeper. Better yet, I'll but a lease return with 10K miles and at 60%
PDK and launch control will shave time off... 2.9 is possible?

Starting @ $ 423,300 plus options + on road costs.
Apart from the 30hp power hike, it seems the rest of the S package is just ticking the boxes on all the performance related options available with the regular Turbo and taking away the choice of manual transmission. Is there anything else exclusive to the S apart from the extra power? Is the extra power due to ECU tuning only or are there mechanical changes?
If Porsche's history is an indicator, then the S will have a powerkit which would make up mechanical and intake changes.
Additionally, the following may be controversial but although over-boost does not increase overall HP, it does increase HP (and torque, of course), within the mid rev range. So, the S would have a stronger low to mid all the time even under partial throttle; without factoring in the addtional 30 HP, which of course will give it a significant power bump in the mid-range. I would definately imagine that the S will run a higher boost all the time.

I'm wondering what the 5 year depreciation will be on the S vs. the TT especially w/ the 998 due out in a couple of years? I plan to be in the market for a low mileage P car in 5 years and I'm guessing $90k will get a nice example.
You guys must REALLY love sports cars to pay through your a$$es like that!
Btw, The specs are amazing. I would just rather have a 2 year old CPO's plain TT for $75K

amazing to me that after literally 20 years Porsche has been producing 195mph cars and has yet to make a SERIOUS attempt toward a genuine 200++mph car. insurance? tires? what could it be? Consider the original RUF Yellowbird?
no doubt the P-Cars have been getting incredibly good and more reliable, far better handling, and etc... throughout the years. surprising though that the 196mph number seems to be a sticking point. the 997 is a better CAR than most anyone is as a driver, but one wonders why the 200mph barrier seems so elusive.
when do we see Porsche throw the 200mph number up for all to see?

I'm no authority on wind resistance, aerodynamics, etc, but breaking just 170 is a feat, much less get to 200. I was there last weekend, and I'm telling you that 200 is a different world.
Gulp.
It probably makes sense when compared to the standard Turbo, given the standard equipment, but it is still an expensive 911.

Spoke to the dealer in Perth today. On road approx $450,000. If you were to add all the standard "options" that the S has onto the regular TT it would cost you approx $4,000 more. So in reality a little cheaper to get the S. All I need to do now is choose the colours. Love the blue/black interior.
