MarcusOn2Turbo is infamous around these parts
why does the GT-R continue beating the 911 Turbo around the track?

I'm highly upset with this people...I dont understand how the GT-R can out handle the porsche around the track.. the only thing i can come up with is that the GT-R does everything for you where the porsche you actually have to drive it and its more fun...

before I thought it was because the GT-R had the dual clutch advantage but then I saw videos of it beating the PDK around the track as well..

I'm in the process of buying a 911 Turbo and I really dont like this happening... can anyone chime in.

Thanks.

You should save the money and get a GT-R. They're awesome.

Will you be driving it around the track? If not, who cares? Besides, it won't go very far with a transmission that breaks

I wasn't going to dignify this thread, but after the transmission comment...

I think he was referring to beatings like this (just last week):

It was a punishing 97 degree day here today, so the heat was on, but the new E85 tune, wing and suspension helped us win the day overall in our GTR with the our new PB (1:13.58) being the fastest of any car by around 4 seconds per lap, and there was some fair competition, numerous GT3/911/GT2/Cup style Sports Cars etc.

This is the grid for 'Group 1' which is the 'fast class', with the cars lined up in qualifying order. We put the GTR on pole, and then posted fastest time of the day, so we are happy. Here is the GTR jumping off the line and into the lead

There is still plenty of development left to get another second or so out of this car, but the E85 trap speeds are now impressive being up 7mph at the 'kink' for a validated 139mph speed trap figure. The only thing holding us back was a set of tyres that already had a session under their belt.....we wont make this mistake again. Great test for the car, easy win for GTR where it counts

I'm not saying that the GT-R isn't a great machine but anyone that tells me they will void my warranty because I used the launch control feature, definitely lost my trust.

In short, the Japanese for years were governed be the Jap Auto Board to produce cars at a certain HP. Under 300 I believe. In order to compete w/ the Europeans and Americans they had to go other routes to get performance out of their cars.
They worked real hard on braking and suspension systems in order to compete. You can YOUTUBE a set of 9 or 10 shows from a Japanese TV program from 2003 that talks about this in detail at the end of it.
I believe it is called “ Still the King “ or something like that? Use Search here and find the thread that is in the 996TT / GT2 forum for it. They have a GT-R prototype race a 996TT at the end of 1 of the show, the 996 wins but only because at that time the GT-R was way under on HP.
I’m a Porsche guy! But I also know there are other cars that in 1 way or another will out perform the Porsche. I just don’t care.

All this bothers you why? So you can tell all your 16 year old buddies that your car can beat their car around the Nurburgring? I fail to see why this gets everyone's pants in a tizzy. You're not Michael Schumacher. You'll never reach 2/3rds the limits of either car. You won't know the difference. /rant

huh....well if u look in the Gtr's owners manual ( both 2009 and 2010) it says that the traction control is ONLY to be turned off to help get out of snow sand etc. it clearly mentions NOT to have the traction control off when using launch control.... obviously when u get ur new gtr u want to do 0-60's time the fastest way possible and every car guy know that u need to turn traction control off to get the fastest thrill and time (with tire squealing)... it just happned that the car went faster with the traction control off but the car itself is Not intended to do hard pulls with the traction control off... so in the 2010 model of the gtr they re-tuned the transmission to make it faster with the traction control on and announced to the public that you dont need to turn it off in order to do these fast 0-60 times... and if ur wondering what they did in the 2010 model they made it so that the car would launch at a lower rpm causing less strain on the car and making it so that it would be faster at the same time.....

In the manual or not, the fact that you can (or could) break it by using traction control is worrisome to me. If they told me I have to drop 20k on a new transmission because of this, I would be more than pissed.

That said, all these auto manuals are scary to me. They are relatively new technology and people can't seem to work on them other than replacing it, which is $$. Go look over on vwvortex at the 'DSG thread'. Same deal there; many cars with problems and if you're out of warranty, it will cost you $6-$8k to fix it; quite a bit of money for cars that are only 20-25k new.

I've read enough horror stories now that I'm only sticking to conventional manuals (for a high performance car at least).

Very true! A good driver in a much lower end car than the 997TT can probably beat 90% of the people on this forum on a track.

Kind of a funny side note, someone I know in a 193hp BMW (with coilovers) was pulling away from a Ferrari driver on a curvy road. Shows enough how much more important driving skill is.

OP the GTR is a exceptional car. It takes and exceptional car to beat a Porsche in "performance". Logically and factually you cannot ignore that cold hard fact especially with all the head to heads these two have done.

Emotionally you may not want to accept that the GTR is faster but that is the reality. Dont let it bother you as this is only cars not life and death. There is always someone faster. There are cars faster than the GTR too [ACR, ZR1] so the cycle is endless regardless of which car you choose, even a Veyron.
