Question 997 Turbo Mesh Grilles

Hi All,

I am about to attempt to fabricate and install some mesh grilles (black stainless aluminum) on my 997 Turbo. I have done it on my 996 with GT3 bumper, and my wife's 996 Cabrio with no trouble (check my garage).

I have searched and found a host of DIY or other posts about removal of 997 and 997 GT3 bumper covers (front), but none for the Turbo.

Anyone have a DIY, photos, shop manual, tips ?? I imagine it is similar, but it has LED lights and fog lights in the cover, so imagine there are some differences? Just wanted to be equipped before I tackle the job.

Any help appreciated. Thanks!

PS...When I do mine I will try to take good photos and post for future help.

Im about to do this as well, shouldnt be too difficult just take the bumper off and figure it out, such a great idea because of all the debris that gets in there

Post pics when done. What do the grill holes lead to? You probably don't want to restrict airflow to brakes, etc., but I guess as long as the mesh holes are large enough it shouldn't be too bad?

Yeah. The mesh I used on my other cars is the same and non-restrictive. I think on average it is about 75% flow through.....And if you don't use grilles you get about 50% blockage from all the crap that clogs the radiators..Mostly leaves, rocks, nasty cigarette butts, and other debris!

any hardware store should carry it, its just mesh wiring and should be painted (not spray painted) so that it just looks black and isnt really visible, at least thats what Im doing

You can search on eBay for "mesh grill" and there are a few sellers that offer aluminum silver and aluminum black quality grill material in sheets of 12 X 48 and in various styles. I have put this on my other cars and it works great. Good quality too.

Good luck.

If you could, please post up some pics of your install. Cargraphic's precut version is ridiculously overpriced. But I can't stand fishing out leaves and cigarette butts out of the vents

I wonder if powdercoating would hold up better?

I watched the dealer clean my front air dam by blowing air though a steel wand. Much of the debris, leaves, and small rocks where trapped behind, but with the help of the air wand debris was flushed out. I was told that the factory recommends the cleaning the debris from the front spoiler with this method.
