Thoughts on purchase price?
Looks like the guy is firm at 90k. With the way the market it is, I am somewhat unsure whether or not this is a good deal. I am in no rush, and although the car is a nice example, I could probably jump into an 08 CPO for not much more than he wants for the 07. Also, does anyone know if the upgraded bose stereo is standard on the Turbos, that is what the sales guy informed me.
Thanks,

I don't believe so. Dealer never formally titles but sells the car as an agent. I know it's a bit daunting process -esp buying the car unseen as I did. The private party sells the car to the dealership and you buy the car from the dealer CPO'ed.
There's a pretty extensive checklist for the CPO certification especially in the last couple years. They changed the program and now cover things bumper to bumper. The car has to meet a pretty strict criteria. This is where selling/trading a modded car to the dealer will bite you. They must run the "Porsche Watch Dog" program in order for it to pass and yes they will be able to tell if it's been flashed... If so then it can't be CPO'd, hence why a lot of cars aren't.
Most of the after market warranties have exclusions, some of which can be quite costly if a failure occurs. CPO these days is worth its weight... I would not own a Porsche without a warranty. To date I would be out nearly 100K if my cars wouldn't have been under Porsche warranty... Just remember, one MAJOR repair out of warranty will negate the differences you're debating between. Of course the ones you're looking at are still under warranty but I'd darn sure have a PDI done to verify the condition or if it's been modded.
The Turbos are holding pretty strong right now. Porsche bringing very fewer over this year helps the value on the used ones even despite the economic conditions. You'll find one though, just hang in there

Well I bought the car today. Settled at 89.5k, the seller was upside down, so that was the best I could get. It will start the CPO process on monday, sale provisional that it passes the CPO. I am getting quoted a guesstimate of 3 grand on the CPO as they state the rear tires need to be replaced under their criteria.

Thanks to everyone for the help!

All in all, it helped greatly that the car is local to me. I would of had to figure in a pair of plane tickets, shipping, hotel, and the hassle of the process if I had found a car farther away. Not to mention the possibility of doing all of the above and not liking the car once I had found it. Factoring in all that, the deal was much more palatable.

Getz - again, congrats on the car! You are absolutley right about local cars. I bought mine out of state and it was a nerve wrecking situation for the reasons you sited. I had mine shipped using a reputable shipper - costed me almost $1k.

CPO can not be added. The dealer has to buy the car and decide whether they want to CPO or not. Once they make that decision they can't go back and CPO it based on a sale in progress, at least not technically. I've heard rumors where dealers have CPO'd cars after a sale but it's strictly against PCNA's dealer agreement.
I'm not quite sure if the car has to be under original warranty or not. I know if it's near the end then the CPO basically adds 2- years to the warranty or up to 100K miles. Once again an individual can not take a privately bought car to a Porsche dealership and have it CPO'd. The dealer must purchase the car, choose to CPO it, then sell it to the customer.
Congrats on the car! At least you didn't pay 150K for it, and for the shape it's in with few miles, it's basically brand new anyway. This is the way to buy one.

Usually I'm told it raises the car about three grand once CPO'd. Depending on the condition, it can cost them quite a bit to get it up to CPO'd criteria, especially the newer criteria. The brakes, tires, fluids, scheduled maintenances, etc, all have to be completed and in tolerance, no known body damages, etc...
