OEM wheels - paint chipping bad

Any of you that have 2007/8 OEM wheels have a problem with the paint on the inside of the rims flecking off real bad?

Mine look awful suddenly and I cannot figure out why they would be chipping so badly. Appears to be worse in the rear.

I'm also wondering if they can be powder coated on the inside instead of paint. I'd like to go with black instead of the gray to see what it would look like.

Any experience you can share would be appreciated. Thx!

I had mine painted black a few months ago and they seem to be holding up pretty well. I use them mostly on the track but will occasionally use them on the street.

Someone correct me if I am mistaken, but I believe my OEM black RS wheels are powder coated and if it wasn't twice the price of a decent paint job I would prefer that. But hey, the others were just track wheels so paint was good enough.

So far so good on mine. Mine are original on my 07 997 TT. They look like new with no chips fleck, etc.. They still have a great shine to the painted section as well. You may have a defective set? Or are you using any kind of harsh cleaner? I applied some wheel wax (can get you the name if interested)......It keeps them cleaner looking and prevents the corrosive brake dust from being able to stick to the wheels....Maybe that helps??

If it's chipping or flaking on the inside of the wheel, it could be brake fluid. That stuff is nasty on paint, if not cleaned off right away properly it will take paint off anything.

If you have had the dealership service your brakes recently, you could try and push them for responsibility and get it either refinished or a new wheel (odds are they will just refinish them)

+1

I was thinking the same thing, i don't think this is normal its the brake fluid or some wheel cleaner which was not used properly

Not normal. But I'd expect repaint, not replacement.

Good luck - get it all checked out.
