Great to see your on the way to restoring the car Ruf. A bit of paint and she'll be brand new again. Is that an oem gt2 bar? And whats that rear spoiler youve got there?

man u did the gt2 bumper for the tips or u did the tips for the bumper eheheh

 

I bought the GT2 bumper bar only to discover that it was essentially the same as the TT bumper bar. The heat shield was just a little different and the tow hook hole was in a slightly different location. I returned for ~$580 credit.

The rear wing is the oem aero kit.

 

As soon as the paint is dry I'll share some pics.

 

Tips came first, hole in bumper came next.

It seemed the right time to find something that fit the tips better.

 

I probably misunderstood what you are asking. I didn't think I showed any pics of the bumper bar which is what I was referring to. It is an oem GT2 bumper if that's what you were asking.

 

RUF how's things goin on any updates ?

 

Some other things got in the way of getting all the painting, sanding, and fitting done on the bumper.

My guy now has to do some work on his own car for a week getting it ready for the track. So another week will pass before we get mine back together and ready for pictures.

 

That's a bummer. Hopefully it will not drag out beyond that.

 

Yeh, i was just curious whether it was a simple fit. So you say it didnt work out and had to return for it for credit heh? So back to the stock 997tt bar then?

 

The bumper bar wasn't needed as the TT bumper bar is almost the same. The bumper bar is what the 2 little crushable bumpers attach to underneath the bumper cover. You can see part of in this pic.



See the bit of silver shining out from underneath the bumper cover? That is the bumper bar and the 2 bumpers surrounding the license plate area attach to it. The tow hook also screws into it so it is fairly stout.

The brackets holding the IC's didn't match the GT2 bumper cover so we had to weld on a piece onto the brackets to match the cover requirements. It wasn't a big deal. Otherwise it is pretty straight forward. All you really need is the bumper covering, the left and right IC exhaust ducts, and the left and right tip shields.

 

It is what it is. Another project kinda got in the way of this one. You remember which one I'm referring to?

We still have some sanding, a couple more coats of black and at least 2 coats of clear to go yet.



Good things are worth waiting for.

 

Ahhh...got it now Ruf . I didnt realise that particular difference in the number plate area between the US and Aussie rear bars was so dramatic.
