Well, worked out with the seller to sell me a new tubi, but as they were about to send it to get it to me for the weekend they discovered it was incomplete... Unfortunately, through many ups and downs another weekend is going by without the muffler and without the use of my car. Not too happy right now.

Sorry to hear you've had such a rough trot. Its no fun at all not having your car to drive. Lets just hope the tubi does if for you and its all worthwhile in the end.

Just remember to have all the studs in the turbo housings first. You will find that the tubi cat flanges are unfortunately thicker than stock which will cause the turbo heat shields to no longer line up with the bolt on the side and also wont sit flush on the flanges. Dont try panel beating them. What you must do here first is you line the small bolt hole on the side of each heat shield up with the mating bolt hole on the side of each turbo housing and put the small bolt in enough so it doesnt pull the thread of that bolt back out when you start tightening the nuts on to the studs. Make sure the nuts on the studs are very loose if you need to have any on to stop the heat shields falling off when locating the side bolt. Once the side bolt has located the heat shield you can then tighten all the nuts on the studs and that will bend the heat sheilds as you tighten etc. Have fun!!

hey speed 21 so i got my new turbo studs today and i was surprised to see that the new studs have a lot less gap between the threads verses the one i have now. the part # is right. so i am not sure, any comments. i like the design on the ones i have now

From memory my new ones also were like that whereas the originals had a small space of unthreaded (bare) section between each of the threaded ends. The studs are the same length though. The only issue is if you have thicker cat flanges (like Tubi has) is that the two studs that go through the heat sheilds have less thread for the nuts to purchase upon.

When i did my Europipe EP1 its flanges were identical thickness to stock so there were no installation compromises anywhere. A beautifull sytem to fit in comparison to tubi.

The other bugger when installing the tubi is the muffler straps. If they are brand new and have never conformed to the various bends around the body tabs yet then its a hell of a job to pull the strap ends together to get the nylock nuts onto the threads. Ive heard certain members claiming to install these with the bumper on .
There is a little trick on this and i can assure you, you dont want the bar in the way .

oh did i right that back wards , the new ones have a smaller space of unthreaded between the threads ends verses the original ones (the original ones have a bigger gap) , so i am little concerned as the new design would be more prone to breaking ? (less space between threads). although the overall length is the same.

They will work fine. Just use the 996tt nuts, the 997tt ones lock to tight and make a mess on the threads if you ever want to get them off again.

ok, more questions if anyone else is still watching. The tubi is on there, speed21, you were dead on about the heat shields. For the record, remember to put them on before the muffler goes on!

I am using a new tubi 1 piece, and the output pipe is 57mm. My factory output OD is 60mm. This means I am SOL at the moment for tips, the shim in there would need another 3mm+ shim. Anyone experience this?

I only have experience with the two can tubi system, which easily accommodates the stock tips.

ok, it's done. wow, what a trip. I just got my fabspeed black chrome tips today.

One concern I have is that the heat shield on one side is very close to the tip housing, I think my Tubi is sitting a little higher than stock. Did anyone here remove a little of the metal frame on the heat shield where the tip mounts?

DMA,
You should have any issues with the exhaust being " higher then stock " Your heat shield might have got caught on something when you were reinstalling the bumper. I would recommend double checking that and you can also just bend up the shield to gain more clearance of the tips
