Sport/Sport Plus???????????
Sport/Sport Plus???????????
I have what may be a silly question. My car has Sport Chrono, I was reading somewhere about Sport Plus, is this the same thing or an additional option.
Thanks in advance

The 911 Turbo is a prime example of the ongoing evolution of Porsche engineering. For another step up in all-around performance, there’s the optional Sport Chrono Package Turbo with dynamic engine mount system and overboost. This integrated system provides simultaneous enhancement for engine, chassis and transmission.
Key features include the overboost function, a digital and analog timer located on the dashboard, a Sport select button on the center console, a performance display and personal memory function in the standard Porsche Communication Management (PCM), and—in combination with Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK)—the Sport Plus button and an additional display on the steering wheel that informs the driver if the Sport buttons and Launch Control have been activated.
When Sport mode is selected, the EMS SDI 3.1 engine management system creates a much more aggressive response to pedal inputs. To do this, it implements an alternative throttle map that relates the pedal position in the footwell to a wider angle of opening in the throttle body. In higher gears, it uses a hard rev-limiter to protect the engine under power.
Under full acceleration, the overboost function provides a temporary increase in available boost pressure of approximately 2.9 psi. The overboost is applied across the low and medium rev ranges, briefly raising the standard 480 lb.-ft. of torque to as much as 516 lb.-ft.
In addition to the engine, Sport mode is enabled in the standard Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM). The dampers become firmer, enabling faster turn-in as well as better contact with the road.
In automatic mode of the optional PDK, the basic gearshift pattern is switched to high-performance mode. The gear-change action is virtually instantaneous, while the shift points are timed for maximum acceleration. Lift off the throttle—even at high revs—and the system automatically shifts down to apply engine braking. In manual shift mode, gear changing is faster and more dynamic.
Porsche Stability Management (PSM) is also modified, with the intervention threshold raised. As a result, the car has a more natural response to lateral and longitudinal forces. Cornering agility is greatly enhanced—when both braking to turn in and applying power on exit—particularly in low-speed curves. The result: even greater driving pleasure.
For maximum maneuverability, PSM can be partially disabled while the car is still in Sport mode. PSM simply monitors the forces acting on the car and will only intervene in the most critical scenarios, e.g., when ABS assistance is required on both front wheels. In conjunction with PDK, the Sport Chrono Package Turbo with dynamic engine mount system has two additional functions that can be activated via the Sport Plus button, for a performance drive that borders on a motorsport experience.
The first function, “Launch Control,” helps you achieve optimal acceleration from a standing start. The function works like this: Press the Sport Plus button when the transmission is in “D” or “M.” Then, with your left foot, press the brake pedal and accelerate fully with your right foot. The car recognizes Launch mode from the accelerator kickdown action and adjusts the engine speed to the optimal level, which is around 5000 rpm. At the same time, boost pressure is increased to approximately 7.3 psi, engine torque is increased and the clutch is applied lightly. Launch Control now appears in the PDK steering-wheel display. Now release the brake as quickly as you can—and feel the full acceleration power of the new 911 Turbo models.

As I understood it, sport stiffens PASM (which can be separately disabled with another button), raises the boost from 1.0 to 1.2 bar, and quickens the throttle response.
Sport Plus, available of PDK, adds launch control.
I don't remember too clearly now, but I thought you had to have the chrono package to get the sport functions. Chrono also adds a few other functions in PCM.
I have the PDK NA car.
The quick explanation -
Sport plus features things like launch control, the fastest shift speed , and in auto mode will shift at redline unless the driver overrrides it. The throttle map is the most aggressive and it really is primarily used for the track.
Sport -
Has shift points geared more towards enthusiast driving .
Normal -- is more for gas saving . The shifts are slower , smoother and at low RPM . One is driving in 6th gear at 35 MPH in auto mode.
If manual mode is chosen --the driver shifts but the sport plus will make the shifts faster . It may not be as comfortable with the slight jolt so most drivers tend to choose "sport" manual and compromise unless on the track .

LOL...not a moron by a long shot. In fact, if anyone is on this thread, it's me. This entire button issue is very confusing. I don't understand why you need a button to activate these functions...why can't they be standard? Apparently there is a Sports Chrono Plus package and a Sports Plus button. From Porsche's website:
Someone please explain to me...aside from $$ profits, why wouldn't Porsche include these functions standard? Why have a separate button to activate the functions?

The roads here in Finland are really poor and you can only drive these cars with Sport suspension on a highway (not all of them). You can drive with relative comfort also in snow with the sport button off. I am not sure, but if you dont have sport mode on, you also seem to start in 2nd gear vs 1st in sport (most of the times). Although when slow driving I have also seen 2nd gear starts with sport mode.
Luckily you can turn the sport mode off ,atleast in Finland...
