3M Clear Bra on 997.2 TTS

hey guys, i've never put a clear bra on any past vehicles i've owned and pretty much always ended up with paint chips.

i've never driven a porsche so not really sure where this vehicle would be susceptible to chips etc.

i'm thinking the front bumper, front lip (since it will be painted) and the side mirrors.

are any parts more important? not so sure i want to do the hood but i welcome all comments of course!

thanks for the advice... TTS arrives Saturday or Monday so dealer wants to prep for what i'll be ordering from now

The porsche is a tank in its build resistance quality. However the front fascia, hood, and windshield are stone magnets. If the paint wasn't strong it would be a visual disaster before you brought her home from Dealer purchase.

Also check the front radiators from time to time.. Keep the ducts clean, why the $150k Porsche did not come with a protective radiator grille still boggles my mind.

it's a GT silver... if a single piece is big enough to cover entire hood should that be done?

Due to the size of the 3M sheets it leaves the top R and L corners of the hood uncovered

I've done it on all my "nice" cars and entire hood, fenders, bumper, behind door handles, gas lid, rear bottom quarter panel (under the vents) are covered. My next "NEW/NICE" car I will do the entire car including rood

side question: so once you put a clear bra on there really is no sense in waxing or detailing a car? its basically just needs a wash?

sorry for all the questions i just never put one on any of my past nice cars and really am not educated on the topic

I think that may be a better question in the detail forum but you definetly need to care for the clear bra with more than a wash. I use a solution that my installer provided (Premier Films) and it basically cleans and conditions the clear bra.

Definitely still needs to be cared for just as you would the paint on the car.....it is not a low maintenance alternative

If your car is white or lite colored I would recommend against 3M because it leaves a yellowish tinge. I have a white P-car and used "venture shield" instead of 3M. You wont notice it unless you get very close to the car and are looking for it. And without it, I would have some major rock chips to the front. Highly recommend!

Dealer is getting the official Porsche Speedfilm installed on mine before I pick it up. Cost: $995, covers all vulnerable places and worth every penny. In Montana, where gravel is on the roads all year around driving without some kind of paint protection is a CRIME!!!

You definitely need to cover the full hood, otherwise you will see the lines and trust me will have a rock chip just above the line of the clear-bra on the uncovered portion of the hood. XPEL and ventureshield offer lifetime protection against yellowing (but not sure about #M). However, 3M films is slightly thicker than atleast ventureshield which may translate into better protection. I have ventureshield and I really like it. I have had it for 6 months, can't tell even a very close quarters that there is a clear-bra. Yes it does swirl easy and those swirls will show in sunlight especially on a dark car. So you just cannot take the car with all the deadbugs on it to an autocarwash. One such visit (even touchless) will leave quite a bit if swirling when the exoskeleton of the bugs are rubbed against the clear film. Clear-bra can be polished to remove the swirls and can be waxed (non carnauba based) or protected with sealant. I am very **** when it comes to regular car wash and clear-bra cleansing.
