Talking Re-covered steering wheel

Just wanted to pass on how pleased I am with my re-covered 997 GT2 steering wheel, done by Dallas Custom Steering Wheel. When I bought the car, it had the Alcantara wheel. For my needs, the grip of the wheel was too small in diameter and Alcantara material too slippery to give me the right driving position and grip to feel confident when hooking it. I went with smooth leather on the top and bottom and perforated on the sides, and the thicker 1/8" pad, along with thread color matching the white stitching in the car and the Porsche thread pattern. Don Le is the man who runs DCSW and does the work. The finished product is superb, totally changing the feel and amount of control. It looks like a Techart wheel, at about 1/4 the cost. Also, he turns it around in 2 days.

Nice! If I didn't go full aftermarket, I probably would have used these guys as well.

Do you have contact info for Dallas Custom? Thanks.

I hope he covered up the stickers on the front - are you going to remove the stickers on the mirror covers?

I sent him my vinyl ones and he wrapped them in Alcantara with deviated stitching, which is not available from Porsche. I haven't gotten around to removing those stupid stickers...

Beautiful wheel! Do you have to send them your wheel, or do they have a core replacement program? What's the ballpark cost?

I had my steering wheel redone by Dallas Steering Wheel as well. First class craftsmanship and customer service. I highly recommend Don.

He does some great work, I bought the leather dome cover. The only problem is he has you send back your part. The guy who had returned the dome cover had broken a couple of clips and the tabs for the sun roof switch and he had no idea or did not care. Had to send it back to him, but the work was great.

That looks great! The steering wheel on my car is my number 1 complaint..small diameter and zero grip. My Mini has a better wheel.

Nah... don't remove the visor warning stickers, just REPLACE them with a more appropriate warning, like these:
