Shimmy on my 2K mile car... who pays?
Shimmy on my 2K mile car... who pays?
Hey guys
I dropped off my TT for service at an unnamed (at this time) dealer and didn’t get the best service. I did get a Panamera to drive around which was cool, but expected when you drop 120K for a car at a dealer.
I needed my 1 year service, and I reported a shimmy @ speeds over 85mph, as well as a squeaky door. They charged me $115 for the roadforce balance (which I thought would be a warranty issue and didn’t help), did the $350 normal service, ignored the squeak, didn’t wash the car and left some dirty rags on the seat.
I'm tired of getting phuqued with service, I had some really bad BMW service earlier this year. What do you guys think, make a stink or switch dealers? Next closest is 30 miles further.

I would tell them off (both manager and tech) and then take my business elsewhere.
So in a year when for reasons of convenience you go back, you are not the whiney client who they dislike, but the kind one that gives them a second chance and they best try hard to keep you there this time.
The balance cant be a warranty item, as it is wear and tear, even a pressure gun can get those little weights unstuck from the wheel and throw it off...
The wash is unacceptable, so tell them straight, however I am not sure I want these guys washing my car... but then again I am **** about swirl marks...

That’s very frustrating! I would go back and speak with the service manager about your experience and then discuss what you believe would be an appropriate resolution. It’s the closer location and I’m sure you’d prefer to do business there. My experience with dealers has been mainly positive. That’s not to say I haven’t had some moments but every time I did bring up a concern they addressed it. Even if you don’t go back I would speak with the service manager about the issue. Be interesting to see if the individual makes an attempt to win back your loyalty/ business, and may be some sort of spark needed to improve their level of service moving forward.

Agree. Carrying on like a hot headed fool will get you no where. 2 wrongs wont make it right. Take it to the top in a rational way and put it to them in a diplomatic way that they are supposed to be the experts.
Hey guys
Thanks for the input. I do plan on reviewing it with them, that's not in question. I never disappear without at least a note. My point was regarding the balance, and who should pay for it. I didn’t think of it as a roadhazard thing that Dianic mentioned, and that makes sense. After all, I swerve to miss anything I see on the road whereas my wife in her Bruiser Honda pilot never misses a pothole

I also had shimmy on my 4k mile car last year and I had to bite the bullet as they claim that it's not covered under warranty. They think the car has been sitting too long and had flat spots - thus leading to imbalance. Who knows. Mine was $80 for roadforce balance...
Alignments are NOT covered under the warranty so technically you have to pay. As for the other unresolved issues talk to them about it. I would tell the manager you are willing to give them another chance because everyone has made a mistake at work but if it happens again you will be bringing your service elsewhere.
Agree if you bought the car from them. Most dealers will do non warranty repairs in "good faith" if the car was purchased from them.
Yeah, that was what I was getting at. I did buy it from them. The BMW dealer dotes over me (they want me to buy a 5 from them) and will fix just about anything free of charge. I was expecting more.
