Advice on tread depth 5/32 & 6/32
Hey guys. Bought these PS2s off someone.
Claimed that the front 235/35 19 have 1600 miles of use, and 200 miles of use on the rears 305/30 19. Claims tires came off a 2009 997TT, garage queen.
Actual Production date of tires is 2005/2006 (DOT) I believe.
Fronts show 5/32 and rears show 6/32.
For reference, new fronts are 9/32 and rears are 8/32.
Clearly, I should be entitled to a refund correct? How many miles do you think they actually have?
If his claim is true, that would mean a set of rear PS2s would be bald in under 1,000 miles!
Thanks in advance for your help guys - let's keep this forum, especially the classifieds, honest.
(P.S. My 2007 997TT came with Bridgestones)

The pictures don’t look that bad. How is the wear across the width of the tire, that would be a good indicator. If the insides are substantially worn down compared to the outsides...there is a good change the mileage may have been fudged a bit. When I pulled a set of my car the mid point to inside were bald. The outer most blocks still almost full thread depth (at 7,500 miles)...remember you did buy them used and if the price was right they could still be a good deal, if you paid too much, well then...hmmm
Clearly, I believed in the wrong person.

I agree that they are used. But he stated that there was only 200 miles on the rears..not matter how you look at it...it doesn't go down from 8/32 to 6/32 in that mileage. He told me they were 8/32 even across all tires.
Oh well...live and learn. If he doesn't refund my money, then I will post who he is and that future buyers beward of him.
200 is hard to believe...if you look at your pictures you’ll notice the breaking/turning edges are scalloped or cupped out...a indication of much higher mileage. Looks more like 3,000-4,000 miles. I doubt they were hard track miles, if so you’d see the cooked rubber on the edge and heavy graining on the outside shoulders.

Am I wrong to have assumed that us 6speedmembers are held to a higher unspoken standard.
Buying tires that are described as off a 2009 with only 200 miles, and receiving tires with almost half the useable tread gone and DOT markings showing production in 2005/2006 is a scam. I personally would not have bought these for any price if the seller was honest.
Anyways, moderator is looking into it. At the very least, I will make others aware that buying parts from this member is a risk.
ok, I agree with you about the from a 2009 and being 2005/6 production.
I recently bought a set of used tires and made sure to see the production date before buying. Get that pic next time.

You are absolutely right: I should have gotten some pics of the DOT markings and the tires themselves. I just assume other were like myself and 99% of the people here.
Anyways, I just would never do the things this member did.
How much did you pay for these tires? Also, just FYI, I am noticing that you are measuring the tread depth on the outer tread which is not what you should be because if you take the tread depth in the middle you will end up with more tread depth. The outer tread ridges always have 1/32 less tread depth than the original middle tread where depth should be measured.

Even if we were to add 1/32 tread to them, it is still 6/32 instead of 8/32 (front), and 7/32 instead of 8/32 (rear). There is still not way 200 miles can take off 2/32 of tread from a tire (9/32 new).
And claiming they came off a 20009 Turbo: there is no way Porsche would put on tires DOT dated 2005/2006 on a 2009. It would mean they kept them at Stuttgart for 3 years in storage.
