Sport Mode Retrofit question.
i do think the most important reason to retro fit is resale value... I believe there is a significantly narrower market out there for cars without the wart and whatever goodies it brings. I think the money spent installing it (although I have no clue on how much it is) is a fraction of the discount that a car without it will sell for (and the longer period it will take as well).

Retrofitting seems kind of extreme to me for a would've/could've/should've option, to each his own. How much is the retrofit anyway? If it were me, I would just flash it and not look back. As far as resale, if these cars drop like the 996's one option won't make much difference IMO.

I just received the retrofit parts for my Carrera S (used the 20% coupon too). It consists of a piece of paper with a software key or something like that and a complete replacement assembly of the spoiler, PASM and PSM button "module" with the additional sport button (997.1 manual tranny in my case) added. I was surprised how substantial and deep this assembly is. Suncoast apparently assembles these two parts into a package. My dealer ordered the retrofit (apparently their first order) and received only the software key. The Porsche parts description for the retrofit states the sport button assembly must also be ordered. I think they pulled up my car's VIN and viewed the parts specific to my car for this button assembly. My console is the standard color -- it's called volcano grey. If yours is an optional finish they should be able to order that too.
I'll be having it installed in a week or two.

sport mode engagement changes the entire feel of the car whether tip or 6 speed.
boost delivery, throttle response, timing advancement, torque curve power output,
manual shifting response... its an entirely different vehicle sport mode off and on.
I would not own this car with out the sport chrono package...
And yes PASM is auto engaged when sport mode is ON. But PASM may then be set separately and independently to SPORT to a soft suspension setting for less desirable road surfaces...

I too am seriously considering this upgrade. My Turbo was bought used without SC. I don't mind not having the Wart as it really isn't that useful (I never used it on my last Turbo and much prefer the old schooll look of the dash) but the SC is something that will add value for me and down the road when it's time to sell.
My question is should I just go with aftermarket ECU upgrade or does the OEM Sport module do more for the car?

On Turbo models, you do get the overboost function.

I "thought" you have to press the little suspension button to get it stiffer. You might be right that when you press PASM, it turns on both but then you can seperately deactivate the stiffer suspension like on my M5. My 997TT is so modded I dont remember as I dont have those functions anymore!!!!
When sport button is pressed,PASM is set to sport mode as well...Then you can set it to normal mode by pressing it...That way you have sport mode on engine and trans and normal mode in PASM...
On the other hand when PASM is set to sport mode, only PASM is altered...

I think Charles has mentioned this other aspect also, and if so, he's one of the few people who have noticed what I have, whether true or not LOL
: The steering feel also changes in Sport mode. It feels lighter and more responsive, more like a 2WD car's steering. The car also oversteers more with Sport mode on, which is an important feature, depending on what you're trying to do. I would not own a Turbo without it but YMMV, etc.For those who hate the wart clock, this is a GREAT option. And shame to Porsche for this marketing ploy of offereing the wart clock and software change only as an expensive "option."

Here it is, hope this helps:
Another Sport Chrono Question - What else does SC do?
1. PSM (decreased interference with Sport Mode --- makes the PSM system less intrusive)
2. PASM (increased suspension stiffnes with Sport Mode by changing dampening rate of the coilover)
3. PTM (the 4WD system becomes more rearward bias -- more power to rear)
4. TCU -- Tiptronic (more "sporty" shift pattern)
5. ECU (increased turbo boost and very likely more aggressive ECU tuning)
6. ETC (more responsive electronic throttle control)
Lastly and perhaps most importantly, and could be entirely in my head
, but I think Sport Chrono on, by making the 4wd system more rearward bias, also makes handling & steering feel more tossable & lighter, less "draggy" as could be felt in a 4WD car. This change in handling feel IMO could well be the most important effect of Sport Chrono. YMMV. <!-- google_ad_section_end -->
