What a PITA!

I'd report him for bothering you over nothing. He SHOULD know lots of cars have that feature now (clear lenses and amber bulbs).

another WTF law in our system. what makes amber so special & different?! enough is enough for those ugly amber reflectors on all the european cars. why only us have to suffer? car looks so much better without it...

OOPS!! If I understand you correctly you don't like that teeny tiny amount of amber showing from the glass bulb?! THAT'S why you changed the BULB to a clear glass bulb? Nice work Bro! I love it.

There were some __clear__ glass bulbs which will shine __amber__ when they are lit. Maybe you know about them. I'm sorry I don't have a link for them.

Anyway, I never thought of the fricking database they must have running now. Might even have reciprocity where getting stopped in Florida for missing plate tells the cops in Washington when they stop you! OMG! Things are getting bad!

Yes! On a related note: I can't wait for my state to go broke so they can't afford to issue front plates anymore! My car will look better on the road even if the state looks worse.

There are plenty of VW and Audi vehicles that come stock with amber bulbs and clear plastic covers.... this is total BS......

I've never understood the front license plate law, and why some states have it, and others do not... Here in MN, "most" vehicles require two license plates to be displayed (front and back), except motorcycles, dealer cars, cars built 1972 and earlier and used for regular driving, street rods, pioneer, and classic cars.
How does driving without a front license plate make you less safe, and more menacing to society in MN, but OK in a state like Indiana or Florida???
I can think of many more stupid things drivers do on a daily basis that the police should be more concerned about than side markers and front license plates....

Took about a second to realize it was DPS...thought he was just admiring the car since I was't doing anything to warrant a traffic stop. Anyway he let me move over into the right lane and about 15 seconds later he lit me up so I pulled over. "Good afternoon and then where is my front license plate and were those aftermarket lights on the side." I told him the plate wasn't attached but was in the trunk but he was more interested in the lights. Said I needed to have amber reflectors - I told him the lights were Porsche lights and that the bulb was amber and then I figured I just better shut up. He asked if I had been stopped for this before - I hadn't. Any way he asked for my license (but not insurance??) went back to his car and came back about 3 minutes later with a warning (no penalties assessed) ticket for no amber reflectors and no front plate. First time stopped in Texas and thought it was strange that the warning isn't even a "fixit" ticket + he was more interested in the lights than no plate. I'm sure I'm in some central data base now so not sure what happens if I'm stopped again.
And the sad part is we PAY for such behavior -- our tax dollars hard a work here, fighting crime!

Another one of my favorites.. 3 cops parked next to each other in the middle of nowhere on an empty the highway at 2am - even better when they are SUVs.

yeah i know. there are some silver coated bulbs that's amber at night when u turn it on. however, the easiest way is just to swap the clear bulb in the amber side marker that u took off.

I though about getting the clears too, but wondered about getting pulled over.

They run about $80-$90 online; however, there is an individual who makes them himself only for Porsches and they only cost $40. I will PM you his email address.

I live in LA and I get these fix-it tickets all the time for no front license plate and tinted front windows. I just started to pay the full amount if the ticket and never do the fix-it thing, I've had no problem so far! Anyone with similar experience?

My stop was just a warning...no fixit involved.

Clear turn signals

here is a link to the required equipment on passanger vichles in NYS. The reason the police can hasstle us on the colr of the lenses is that even if they burn yellow when activated, the requirement is for Amber reflectors, meaning they need to be amber wirth they are off as well.

Not happy about this at all because I ordered the clear sides (40 bucks) to be dealer installed b4 delivery. Now I am not sure if its worth the hastle?

But even the OEM ambers are not reflectors, they are plastic lenses - might be difficult to convince a trooper. Does the law really specify reflectors?
