DME Scan
Looking to purchase 2007 997 TT thousand miles away. The owner has done ECU software upgrade. If I am reading this correctly, looks like this guy put range 2 going to dealer for PPI and DME scan for me... Seriously thinking about walking away from the deal. Any opinion?

Well, it doesn't exactly inspire confidence but I'm not sure it rises to the level of being a deal breaker. I would not worry about the 1's and 2's at all. What did the PPI reveal?
If the car has a warranty and you will be able to inspect it before purchase that would be big plus. I'm not sure this is one I'd buy sight unseen from a thousand miles away, however. Good luck.

True, although some do. With my Evoms flash the redline/limiter was increased to 7,000 to take advantage of other ecu mapping changes which is key. It's not about making more revs for the sake of simply making more revs, it's about optimizing the power and torque curves relative to other changes made to various tuning parameters; fuel - air mixture, timing, boost, etc. It's also about keeping everything within some modicum of reasonability to maintain reliability over time and to keep motors from needlessly blowing up. Undoubtedly, some tuners achieve their objectives without having to raise rev limits.
I don't know what the absolute limit is or what what the max rpm level other tuners go to without strengthening engine internals but I'd be surprised if it's too much higher than 7,000 - 7,200. A tuner wouldn't get much business if they were known for regularly destroying motors so some sort of safety factor must be built in. Then again, that truly is a WAG on my part and it would be interesting to hear if anyone is routinely running their TT above these levels.

Probably true unless the ECU has been flashed, the rev limiter adjusted upwards and possibly other parameters tinkered with. That said, I'm not sure how much of this is even possible w/ PDK or Tip.
At 7000 rpm in these cars, I'm afraid you are simply making more revs for the sake of more revs. It will get you across 130 mph in 4th. At that point, you're way past peak tq and power is on the decline.
