Why a "disaster in waiting" if Porsche ships 2 high performance cars (GT2 and GT3RS) with 5mm spacers as OEM.

 

But Barry what are you ride heights and alignment settings?? I recall your car as having fully adjustable coilovers? Remembering any additional camber will move the top of the wheel in.....unless of course you are acheiving the extra neg by moving in the upper front strut or adjustable upper rear arm (if fitted). Point here is these settings alone will affect the spacer widths you can get away with vs a stock alignment and ride height.

I know Karim says it is an inexpensive enough excercise to trial the possibilities but my money is on a 5F max and 7R max max combo. It'll be interesting to see. I still maintain there must be a difference in the control arm lengths or something else that sets the .2tt wheels out further in the guards than .1tt

Well, hate to disappoint but I decided to forgo the spacers...

But all for a good cause...

bumperpip got me thinking and I re-evaluated this whole wheels thing.

Since there is not much I can do anymore for upgrading my car power wise until our friends at CMS release the PDK upgrade, etc...

I decided that the best way for me to improve the looks of the car AND get some added performance is this:





And since the offset on these wheels do not require any spacers and they are about 14KG lighter than my stock wheels ====> win/win/lose performance/looks/self-impoverishment situation.

BBS FI wheels in satin charcoal/diamond cut finish with TPMS valves and ability to accept both BBS and Porsche center caps.

Well done Karim!!!! Spacers can be a PITA anyway. No doubt about you tho.....you sure do go in hard. These arent cheap i hear so I can see that pot emptying real fast at this rate.

No substitute for lightweight monoblocks....you should feel the difference . How long do we now have to wait before we get to see pics?

 

Sorry Paul, I missed seeing your message earlier.

The car has been lowered ~1" and the alignment is not REAL aggressive but more than stock. As you say, additional negative camber will move the top of the wheel in, but adding a spacer moves the entire wheel farther out so there is still plenty of clearance on the inside of the wheel.

That's odd because my stock wheels are ET56 front and ET51 rear.

 

Beautiful addition Karim and way better than spacers. Quite a bit more expensive though.

 

You are right Barry. Sorry, my bad on the stock .1tt offsets. I was going off old diary notes I compliled at the time i was comparing the rf67 rims. My P book for the turbo .1 was was at home....all others in office. I will edit my earlier post, most of which is now no longer relevant and will go and cut my slice of humble pie

Thanks Barry. Yes indeed, quite a bit more expensive I'm afraid.
Although, selling the OEM rims might help offset part of that cost. There's good demand for them from the 997.1 owners over here.

Have you considered other alternative offerings or are you firm on these?
There have been a number of wheel threads in recent times and there are some excellent offerings. Now on the performance side of things, i find when i change the stock rims over to the rf67's the car feels a bit friskier to me....unless its just my imagination...or the day..mood or something. But i've heard other lightweight wheel users say they can feel a difference so maybe im not just imagining it. I'll be keen to hear your but dyno impressions.

On the humble pie i will endeavor to make the best out of this rare treat ...if not grimacing just a touch in the eating process .

 

Beautiful choice of wheels, Karim. Certainly worth the wait. On the GT board, Pete had a long and illuminating conversation with P's Andreas Preuninger (sp?) in which he (Preuninger) emphasizes P's "obsessive" attention to weight control. If I didn't know better, I'd swear the speaker was Colin Chapman. Add Lightness indeed!
